WHY THIS MATTERS
The appointment of João Rodrigues comes at a time when European deeptech is moving from a period of heavy R&D into a phase of aggressive global scaling. Historically, many European tech firms have struggled with the transition from laboratory success to commercial leadership, often due to a lack of “hands-on” operational expertise during the growth stage. This move matters because it injects over 20 years of value creation experience into Jolt Capital’s portfolio, specifically bridging the gap between complex engineering and financial performance.
By basing Rodrigues in London, Jolt Capital is also strengthening its presence in one of the world’s most critical hubs for capital and deeptech talent. As portfolio companies navigate the complexities of international expansion, carve-outs, and post-merger integrations, having a dedicated partner with a McKinsey and private equity pedigree provides a significant competitive advantage. For investors, this signals that Jolt is not just providing growth capital, but is actively building the operational infrastructure required to turn European innovators into global market leaders.
Jolt Capital, a leading private equity firm specializing in growth capital for European deeptech companies, is pleased to announce the appointment of João Rodrigues as Value Creation Partner, based in London, UK.
In his new role, João Rodrigues will join Jolt Capital’s value creation team and play a key role in enhancing portfolio performance. He will work closely with portfolio company executives to define and execute value creation plans, accelerate growth initiatives, and support operational excellence across the portfolio. Drawing on his extensive experience across private equity and consulting, he will contribute to strengthening Jolt Capital’s hands-on approach to building global leaders in deeptech.
João Rodrigues brings over 20 years of experience in value creation, private equity, and strategic consulting. Most recently, he served as Managing Director – Value Add Solutions at The Rohatyn Group, a global asset manager with approximately US$7 billion in assets under management. Prior to that, he was Partner and Principal in Value Creation at Ethos Private Equity, where he played a central role in developing and implementing value creation strategies across the full investment lifecycle, from due diligence to exit readiness.
Over the course of his career, João has led numerous transformation and growth initiatives across industries, including carve-outs, post-merger integrations, turnaround programs, and international expansion strategies. He has also held multiple board positions, driving governance improvements and strategic alignment within portfolio companies.
During his earlier career at McKinsey & Company, João led large-scale performance improvement programs and advised multinational clients across sectors such as mining, energy, and industrials.
João holds an MBA with distinction from INSEAD, and a BSc in Electronic Engineering (summa cum laude) from the University of Natal (South Africa).
“We are delighted to welcome João to Jolt Capital,” said Jean Schmitt, President and Managing Partner. “His deep expertise in value creation, combined with his strong operational and strategic background, will be instrumental in supporting our portfolio companies in their next phase of growth. He has the kind of profile that we are looking for at Jolt, mixing an engineering background with financial acumen. With him, we also strengthen our London-based team. Many reasons why we pat ourselves on the back for his arrival onboard. »
“I’m thrilled to join the Jolt Capital team on our mission to scale leading deep tech companies. It’s a privilege to partner with visionary management teams to unlock the full potential from businesses. Drawing upon my prior experiences in engineering, consulting and private equity, I look forward to enhancing Jolt’s value creation approach and supporting our portfolio companies’ pursuit of global leadership,” said João Rodrigues.
FF NEWS TAKE
Jolt Capital’s strategy of hiring “hybrids”—professionals with both deep technical backgrounds and high-level financial acumen—is a direct response to the specific needs of the 2026 deeptech market. In an era where “growth at any cost” has been replaced by a focus on EBITDA and sustainable scaling, the role of a Value Creation Partner is essential. Rodrigues’ background in electronic engineering combined with his experience at The Rohatyn Group makes him an ideal fit for a firm that operates at the intersection of hard science and hard assets.
However, the challenge for any value creation team in deeptech is the sheer diversity of the portfolio, ranging from semiconductors to green energy. While a standardized playbook works for traditional private equity, deeptech requires a more bespoke, “engineering-first” approach to problem solving. The success of this appointment will be measured by how effectively Rodrigues can translate his consulting rigor into the agile, high-pressure environment of scaling startups. Overall, this move reinforces London’s position as the primary command center for European deeptech growth.
