MAGA Rep upbraids 10-year-old for asking about electric cars — and gets slammed in return

A MAGA Representative upbraided a 10-year-old for asking her about electric vehicle subsidies for a class assignment, and got mocked by political analysts and observers in return.

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), 82, recently received a letter from a fourth grader asking about a $5,000 tax rebate for new electric vehicle purchases, according to reports. Foxx responded to the letter by telling the young student that the national debt matters more, and that asking for such a tax rebate would take "money out of the pockets of hardworking people." She also sent the fourth grader an article about the "urgent crisis" of the national debt.

"This is an urgent crisis, and we must act before it is too late to turn away from this dangerous path that we are on, which will lead inevitably to economic failure and bankruptcy," Foxx wrote in her response. "2038 is only 12 years away, and YOU and your classmates will be responsible for that debt. Incidentally, please ask your teacher to explain propaganda to you."

Political analysts and observers mocked Foxx's response on social media.

"This is a totally inappropriate response to one of her youngest constituents," Emily Mango, the student's mother, wrote in a post on Instagram. "Clearly she is out of touch. I’m embarrassed that she represents NC. I wish we had a representative who demonstrates respectful leadership and encourages children to engage in civil discourse rather than attacking children who write them letters."

"MAGA granny strikes again!" Gloria Campos, retired multimedia journalist, posted on X.

"These people have power over your life," Joshua Reed Eakle, managing director of development and communications for the Institute for Humane Studies, posted on Bluesky.
