MANILA, Philippines – Twenty-four people have been killed after a building collapsed in Pampanga, according to the latest update from the Angeles City Information Office on Wednesday, June 3.
Rescuers were able to retrieve two more bodies on Wednesday morning. Authorities have yet to identify the two individuals.
The 21st fatality, retrieved on Tuesday, June 2, was said to have been the body of an infant. Some family members of construction workers were also reportedly in the building when it collapsed.
The Department of Labor and Employment Region 3 Office had flagged the building for occupational health and safety violations.
Last May 24, a nine-story building under construction collapsed in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City. Two days after the collapse, search and rescue efforts shifted to search and retrieval operations. Clearing of debris continues.
At least P1.4 million-worth of assistance have been given to 50 affected families, according to a situational report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as of May 30. – Rappler.com
