Citigroup launched a blockchain platform that tokenizes and trades shares of late-stage private companies for institutional investors globally. The bank partners with SDX on R3 Corda infrastructure and targets pre-IPO equity markets valued at $75 billion framework.
Citigroup acts as custodian and tokenization agent for the regulated digital securities system. It issues authorised tokenised depositary receipts held through a regulated institutions system. The platform runs on R3 Corda through SDX digital central securities depository system layer. It uses permissioned distributed ledger infrastructure inside the SIX Group system layer. Access starts with foreign investors, while U.S. access comes later, with the global rollout. Regulators will determine the timing for expansion into U.S. markets and global rollout.

Distribution uses Sygnum Bank and SBI Digital Markets in Switzerland and Singapore’s digital systems. The platform targets institutional and qualified investors across Europe and Asia’s digital system. Artem Korenyuk said private shares will sit next to the Apple stock system platform. Investor experience places private company shares alongside the public equities system platform.
Private equity trades currently require manual processing that takes weeks to complete. SDX platform enables near-instant execution and settlement for these trades processing system. JPMorgan, Bank of America and Citi develop tokenized deposit network system network. The network aims to compete with stablecoins on a settlement rails network system.
The platform targets a $75 billion late-stage private equity market globally. Companies delay IPOs, leaving investors without secondary market routes in the market system.
