Far-right Senate hopeful fumbles as candidacy papers filed with wrong agency

Far-right North Carolina Senate candidate Michele Morrow made an embarrassing mix-up that sent her candidacy paperwork to the completely wrong election agency.

According to Carolina Forward, Morrow tried to file her paperwork with the North Carolina State Board of Elections, which would be the correct agency if she were running for a state office like governor or state representative, but is not the right agency for a federal office like U.S. Senate.

The letter NCSBE sent back to Morrow's campaign politely alerted her to this mistake.

"Our office received the Statement of Organization on behalf of this committee," said the letter. "After reviewing the form, it appears that the candidate is running for a Federal Candidate position. You will need to file all forms with the Federal Election Commission and not the NC State Board of Elections. I am including the link to their website so you can obtain the information for filing with their office ... We will file your forms away but will not process them."

Morrow previously ran for Superintendent of Public Instruction, unseating incumbent Republican officeholder Catherine Truitt in a shock upset.

Her campaign was then sunk by a series of revelations about her past comments, including that she called to have former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden executed for treason, claimed that the Chinese Communist Party rigged the 2020 election by stationing soldiers in Canada, and urged Trump to suspend the Constitution and execute a military coup.

US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the 19 members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) remain divided on additional interest rate cuts in 2025.At Wednesday’s press conference after the Fed’s 25-basis-point rate cut, Powell said the central bank is trying to balance its dual mandate of maximum employment and price stability in an unusual environment where the labor market is weakening even as inflation remains elevated. Powell said:Powell said that the “median” FOMC projection from the Federal Reserve’s Summary of Economic Projections (SEP), the Fed’s quarterly outlook for the US economy that informs interest rate decisions, projected interest rates at 3.6% at the end of 2025, 3.4% by the end of 2026, and 3.1% at the end of 2027.Read more
