PANews reported on February 25 that, according to sources, Anthropic has no intention of relaxing restrictions on its military applications following a meeting with the Pentagon to discuss the company's future. The meeting between Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and US Defense Secretary Hergsays aimed to resolve a months-long dispute. The AI startup refused to remove security safeguards designed to prevent its technology from being used to autonomously locate weapon targets and conduct domestic surveillance. According to sources, during the meeting, Hergsays issued Anthropic an ultimatum: either it be considered a supply chain risk, or the government would invoke laws to force Anthropic to change its rules. The deadline for the government to respond to Anthropic was Friday.
