Trump brags White House ballroom advancing as he puts Medicare on the chopping block
President Donald Trump bragged on Thursday that his "magnificent" ballroom project had taken another step toward becoming a reality, even as he threatens to discontinue social programs like Medicare and Medicaid in order to provide more funding for the military.
Trump wrote a post on Truth Social thanking the "hardworking" members of the National Capital Planning Commission, who voted 8-1 to approve his ballroom project. Trump was especially tickled by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) casting a vote in favor of the project.
"For more than 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Ballroom at the White House to accommodate people for Grand Parties, State Visits, and even, in the Modern Day, Inaugurations," Trump wrote. "I am honored to be the first President to finally get this much-needed project, which is on time and under budget, underway. When completed, it will be the Greatest and Most Beautiful Ballroom of its kind anywhere in the World, and a fabulous complement to our Beautiful and Storied White House!"
Trump made the comments just a day after he told a group of religious organizations at the White House that the federal government could not afford to continue funding Medicare and Medicaid. He told them the only responsibility of the federal government is "military security."
