Can Bitcoin Return to $100,000 by the End of 2026?

Bitcoin can still return to $100,000 before the end of 2026, but the move now requires more than market optimism. It needs a clear improvement in capital flows and a less hostile interest-rate environment.

When checked on October 18, 2026, the live Bitcoin price on MEXC was approximately $82,100. From that level, BTC would need to gain about 21.8% to reach $100,000, with roughly ten and a half weeks remaining in the year.

That percentage is achievable for an asset as volatile as Bitcoin. The more difficult question is whether current market conditions can produce enough sustained buying to support the move.

The Distance to $100,000 Is Smaller Than It Looks

A return to $100,000 would require Bitcoin to add approximately $17,900 from its October 18 level. In percentage terms, the required move is significant but not exceptional relative to Bitcoin’s historical volatility.

The psychological importance of $100,000 could also affect the path. Traders who bought during previous declines may take profits as BTC approaches the threshold, while short positions could be forced to close if momentum accelerates.

However, reaching $100,000 during a brief price spike is different from ending the year above it. A sustainable move would require continued demand after the first attempt, rather than a rally driven mainly by leverage and short liquidations.

ETF Flows Are Not Yet Supporting a Strong Recovery

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs remain one of the clearest measures of demand from regulated investment channels.

Farside Investors recorded approximately $228.4 million in combined net outflows from U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs during the five trading sessions from October 12 through October 16.

The daily picture was uneven. The products attracted $175.7 million on October 13 but recorded $261.4 million in net outflows on October 14 and another $82.4 million on October 16.

These figures do not mean that Bitcoin cannot rise. ETF flows represent only one part of the market, and a single negative week does not establish a permanent trend.

Still, a move from approximately $82,100 to $100,000 would be more credible if ETF flows shifted from intermittent demand to several weeks of consistent net inflows. Without that support, the market may remain more dependent on leveraged traders and short-term sentiment.

Higher Inflation Is the Main Macro Obstacle

The biggest challenge to a $100,000 Bitcoin price is the renewed tightening risk from the Federal Reserve.

U.S. headline inflation accelerated to 3.7% year over year in September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Federal Reserve had already raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points in September, bringing it to approximately 3.9%.

Minutes from that meeting showed that most officials expected another increase could be necessary before the end of 2026. The next Federal Reserve decision is scheduled for October 28, followed by another meeting in December.

Higher interest rates raise the return available from cash and government bonds. They can also support the U.S. dollar and reduce investors’ willingness to hold volatile assets without predictable income.

Bitcoin does not always fall when rates rise, but a surprise rate increase or more aggressive guidance would make the route to $100,000 more difficult. A decision to hold rates steady, accompanied by softer future guidance, could provide a more supportive backdrop.

The U.S. Midterms Could Change Sentiment, Not Liquidity Overnight

The U.S. midterm elections on November 3 may create short-term volatility around crypto regulation, taxation and fiscal policy.

The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act failed to advance in the Senate in September, leaving comprehensive U.S. crypto legislation unresolved. Changes in congressional control could determine whether the bill returns, is rewritten or remains blocked.

A result viewed as supportive of clearer digital asset rules could improve sentiment. However, the election cannot directly create the sustained buying needed to move Bitcoin nearly 22% higher.

For the year-end forecast, monetary policy and actual capital flows are likely to matter more than political headlines alone.

MEXC View: $100,000 Is Achievable but Not Yet Confirmed

MEXC’s view is that Bitcoin reaching $100,000 by year-end remains a realistic bullish scenario, but current evidence does not justify treating it as the inevitable outcome.

The target becomes more credible if three conditions develop together: spot ETF flows turn consistently positive, the Federal Reserve avoids a more aggressive tightening path, and Bitcoin’s advance is supported by spot demand rather than excessive leverage.

If only one condition improves, BTC may rally without completing the move. For example, favourable election news could lift sentiment temporarily, but continued ETF outflows or higher Treasury yields could limit follow-through.

The bearish scenario would strengthen if inflation remains elevated, the Federal Reserve signals additional rate increases and regulated investment products continue losing capital. Under those conditions, Bitcoin could spend the remainder of the year consolidating below $100,000 or retesting lower prices.

The most useful question is therefore not whether Bitcoin can produce a 21.8% rally. It is whether new buyers will remain active long enough to absorb profit-taking as the price approaches six figures.

What Traders Should Monitor Through December

The October 28 Federal Reserve decision is the first major test. Traders should watch the policy statement and guidance rather than reacting only to the headline rate decision.

Daily ETF flow data will show whether institutional demand is improving. Several consecutive weeks of net inflows would carry more weight than one unusually strong trading day.

The November 3 midterm election may affect regulatory expectations, while subsequent inflation reports will shape the December interest-rate outlook.

Traders should also compare price performance with the type of demand behind it. A gradual rise supported by spot buying would generally provide a stronger foundation than a rapid move dominated by derivatives liquidations.

FAQ

Will Bitcoin reach $100,000 in 2026?

It remains possible. From approximately $82,100 on October 18, Bitcoin needs to gain about 21.8% to reach the target. Whether it does so will depend largely on capital flows and monetary policy.

Could Bitcoin touch $100,000 but finish the year below it?

Yes. Reaching the level briefly and closing the year above it are different outcomes. Profit-taking could increase around the psychological threshold.

Are Bitcoin ETF outflows a bearish signal?

Persistent outflows can weaken demand, but one negative week is not enough to establish a long-term trend. Traders should monitor whether flows remain negative across several weeks.

What could invalidate the bullish scenario?

A more aggressive Federal Reserve, rising Treasury yields, sustained ETF outflows or a leverage-driven liquidation event would weaken the case for a return to $100,000.
