Eskom’s Thyspunt nuclear site was considered for up to 6,000 MW but program cancelled in 2017; no current active 5,200 MW push. The site awaits environmental nods. If approved, it boosts baseload capacity. South Africa supports nuclear expansion aligning with global pledges like COP28 to triple capacity by 2050 (22 initial signatories).
