The San Francisco Giants suffered a sweep at the hands of the division rival Arizona Diamondbacks and it marked another low in a brutal season.
After entering the campaign with some high hopes following several win-now additions to the roster and the appointment of Tony Vitello as the new skipper, the Giants have seen their record run off the rails in the first third of the season and they sit more than a dozen games back in the National League West division.
And as the team disappoints, a report surfaced that several players, including franchise slugger Rafael Devers, are now on the trade block.

“The West Coast version of the Worst Team Money Can Buy: the Giants, who haven’t had a winning record since 2021,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote. “The Giants would love to unload outfielder Jung Hoo Lee ($85 million left on his contract), shortstop Willy Adames ($161 million remaining), first baseman Rafael Devers ($226.5 million remaining) and Matt Chapman ($125 million remaining) and start over.”
The Giants acquired Devers well before last year’s trade deadline after he refused to change positions for the Boston Red Sox and that team sought to ship him off as a result. And he has hardly lived up to his contract since heading West, with a .238/.324/.440 slash line across 550 at-bats for the Giants since that trade.
San Francisco Giants Slugger Rafael Devers Changes Agency Amid Trade Speculation
Now, as he struggles at the plate and the Giants head toward a deadline fire sale, the slugger has made a significant change in his representation.
“Agent Nelson Montes de Oca recently joined the Ballengee Group, and among clients following him include San Francisco Giants star Rafael Devers,” Robert Murray reported for FanSided.
The move takes Devers away from Klutch Baseball, a division of the Klutch Sports Group, which represents some of the most notable athletes across several major professional sports. By comparison, Ballangee Group represents lower-profile athletes overall and recently made headlines for firing a pair of longtime MLB agents, Jeff Randazzo and Jeff Borris.
“The shakeup prompted at least 17 of Randazzo’s player clients at Ballengee to opt to go on the Do Not Contact list for other certified agents, most notably Mason Miller (San Diego Padres), Tommy Kahnle (Detroit Tigers), Zach Agnos (Colorado Rockies) and Gavin Sheets (Padres),” The Athletic’s Brittany Ghiroli and Ken Rosenthal reported at the time. “The flood of players who made the request, which goes through the MLB Players Association, is unusual.”
But after Montes de Oca negotiated Devers’ blockbuster contract with the Red Sox, which appears to be a significant overpay now burdening the Giants, Devers’ decision to follow the agent and leave Klutch Baseball makes sense. It seems the agent will be able to negotiate the best for Devers, wherever he is.
