British singer Lily Allen shocked fans with a new, meticulously detailed breakup album that appears to allude to the demise of her marriage to actor David Harbour (though Allen has admitted taking some “artistic license”), chronicling an open marriage, alleged infidelity and a mistress named Madeline—and days later, the couple is selling the Brooklyn home they shared.

The apparent allegations Allen makes in her album quickly went viral, as lyrics depict a partner, whom Allen does not name, who asks to open their marriage after Allen is offered a role in a play overseas, but violates the terms of their agreement by becoming emotionally involved with another woman, referred to as “Madeline.”
On the album, Allen sings about nearly relapsing and accuses her partner of being a “sex addict,” singing about discovering a “shoebox full of handwritten letters from brokenhearted women” and “hundreds of Trojans” in her partner’s apartment.
Though Allen doesn’t name Harbour on the record, fans noted the details in her lyrics appeared to match Allen’s life during her marriage to the actor, as Allen was cast in a play on London’s West End shortly after purchasing a home in Brooklyn with Harbour in 2021.
Allen and Harbour were married in 2020, though speculation mounted earlier this year the couple had split after Allen was reportedly spotted on dating apps and took a break from her BBC podcast, citing her mental health.
Allen and Harbour have since listed their Brooklyn townhouse for just under $8 million, with the 3,960 square-foot residence featuring five bedrooms, four bathrooms and amenities like a sauna, home gym and a private backyard.
What Do We Know About Allen And Harbour’s Brooklyn Home?
The now-separated couple gave Architectural Digest a tour of the home, located in Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens neighborhood, in 2023, calling it “weird and wonderful” after overhauling the home with elaborate floral wallpapers and new furniture. Allen and Harbour purchased the home for $3.4 million in 2021, months after they were married, and they enlisted designer Billy Cotton to helm renovations. Cotton told Architectural Digest he wanted to make it look like the former couple had “inherited the home from a kooky Italian nonna with fabulous taste.” Among their renovations included a $9,000 chandelier and a double-sided sofa that Allen joked allowed her and Harbour to “argue and sort of be looking at each other and relaxing at the same time.” Allen’s album, in which she sings about her partner’s alleged infidelity and details the purchase of their Brooklyn home, sparked renewed interest in the house tour she and Harbour gave Architectural Digest, with commenters scrutinizing their body language.
What Does Lily Allen Say On “west End Girl?”
Allen released “West End Girl” on Friday, a 14-track album that tells a story of an unnamed partner asking the narrator to open their marriage just for sex with other people, only for the partner to engage in an alleged emotional affair with another woman. On the opening title track, Allen sings about being offered a leading role in a West End play shortly after moving to New York—which Allen did in 2021, starring in “2:22: A Ghost Story”—and includes a spoken-word phone call in which her partner asks to open their marriage. “I mean, it makes me really sad,” Allen says on the song, adding she wants her partner “to be happy.” Throughout the record, Allen accuses her partner of engaging in an emotional affair with a woman named “Madeline,” sings about nearly relapsing and discusses returning to dating apps. “Yes, I’m here for validation and I probably should explain / How my marriage has been opened since my husband went astray,” she sings on the song “Dallas Major.” Allen told the Times of London the album is based on “things I experienced within my relationship,” but added, “I don’t think I could say it’s all true — I have artistic licence.” Harbour has not commented on the record.
Who Is “madeline”—and Is She Real?
Allen refers to a woman named “Madeline” across multiple songs on “West End Girl,” whom she portrays as the subject of her partner’s alleged infidelity. On the song “Tennis,” Allen describes her partner showing her a photo on Instagram on his phone, only to grab the phone back out of her hands once she receives a text, ostensibly from Madeline. “So I read your text, and now I regret it / I can’t get my head ’round how you’ve been playing tennis,” Allen sings, asking: “Who the f— is Madeline?” The next song, titled “Madeline,” is structured as a conversation between Allen and Madeline, as Allen asks her: “How long has it been going on? Is it just sex or is there emotion?” Madeline tells Allen there is “no emotional connection” and says Allen’s partner talks about her “with the utmost respect.” Allen questions whether this is “a line that he fed you,” and threatens if Madeline lies to her, “I’ll end you.” Shortly after the album’s release, a woman claiming to be the real Madeline spoke with the Daily Mail, revealing her identity as Natalie Tippett, a costume designer who claims she met Harbour on a film set. Allen, however, told the Times of London that Madeline is a “fictional character” and a “construct of others.”
What Do We Know About Allen’s Relationship With Harbour?
Allen and Harbour were spotted multiple times together in 2019, making their first Instagram posts as a couple in October of that year. They attended the Screen Actors Guild awards in January 2020, where Harbour was nominated for his role in “Stranger Things,” and they married in September of that year in Las Vegas. After more than four years of marriage, speculation the couple had split mounted after British tabloid reports claimed Allen was spotted on the dating app Raya. In early 2025, Allen took a break from her BBC podcast “Miss Me?” citing panic attacks and poor mental health, stating she had been “spiraling,” though she did not share whether her difficulties were related to Harbour. Tabloids began reporting Allen and Harbour split in February, and upon returning to her podcast later that month, Allen said she had stayed at a treatment center for therapy to deal with “emotional turmoil.”
