The 122nd all-time meeting for Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State takes place Friday in Starkville, Miss. The annual Egg Bowl college football game, which has been played since 1927, caps off the 2025 regular season for both Southeastern Conference programs.
It may be one of the last games for coach Lane Kiffin as a member of the Rebels coaching staff. He’s coached in Oxford, Miss. since the 2020 season.
Florida and LSU, as well as Ole Miss, are reportedly preparing to offer the 50-year-old in the range of $13 million per year to lead their respective programs, according to On3 Sports. Kiffin, whose had other college football head coaching stops at Tennessee, USC and FAU, is currently the 10th highest-paid Div. I college football coach, per USA Today’s database.

Ole Miss leads the all-time series against Mississippi State with a 66-49-6 record. This year’s Egg Bowl is the 98th edition of the game. The Rebels have won four of the last five meetings in the rivalry, including last year’s 26-14 victory in Oxford, Miss.
At 10-1, the Rebels are No. 7 in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings, with their lone loss this season coming against Georgia in mid-October. The Bulldogs rallied from a nine-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to win 43-35 in Athens, Ga.
With its current ranking, Ole Miss is slated to host a first-round contest in the College Football Playoff. The game would mark the program’s first-ever appearance in the Playoff.
Meanwhile, Mississippi State holds a 5-6 record and needs a victory Friday to reach bowl eligibility for the first time since the 2022 season. The last time that the Bulldogs beat the Rebels at home occurred in 2019.

Friday’s kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on ABC. Play by play caller Dave Pasch, analyst Dusty Dvoracek and sideline reporter Taylor McGregor will be in Starkville, Miss.
The Rebels are 7.5-point favorites against the Bulldogs, according to the latest FanDuel Sportsbook betting odds. The over/under is currently set for 62.5 points, per FanDuel.
Ahead of Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State, ESPN Analytics show that the Rebels have nearly an 80% chance to win the rivalry matchup.
