Solana News: Galaxy Digital Picks SOL for Tokenized Securities, Critics Not Convinced

2025/12/12 20:05

Key Insights:

  • In Solana news, the tokenized securities debate grew after Galaxy Digital said SOL is the only chain fast enough.
  • Past network outages and a weak ecosystem make many unsure about Solana’s readiness.
  • Critics say Ethereum’s rollups look safer for big assets that need constant uptime.

According to the latest Solana news, the tokenized securities on SOL became a major topic this week after a strong statement from Galaxy Digital.

The head of Galaxy’s DeFi team said Solana is the only blockchain fast enough to handle tokenized versions of real assets.

He even said Galaxy has already tokenized its own NASDAQ shares on Solana. This surprised many people because Solana still faces trust issues from its past network shutdowns. Now the big question is simple: Can Solana really support a market as serious as tokenized securities?

Why Galaxy Says Solana Is the Only Chain for Tokenized Securities?

Galaxy Digital is a large company in the digital asset space. When its head of DeFi, Marc Cantonio, said Solana is the “only chain with the speed and efficiency needed” for tokenized securities, the statement drew attention.

Tokenized securities are real-world assets, like company shares, moved onto a blockchain so they can be traded faster.

These assets need a chain that works all the time.

They cannot stop in the middle of the day, the way a normal crypto token might. This is where the concern begins. Solana has a history of network outages.

At times, the chain stopped for hours. Many users still wonder what would happen if the next outage occurs while big financial assets are trading. People want to know how Solana plans to prevent this.

Galaxy’s statement suggests it believes speed matters more than anything else. But many still worry that uptime, or how long the chain stays active, is more important for large financial markets.

Solana News: Weak Market and the New Move From Coinbase

The comment also came at a strange time for the Solana ecosystem.

Data from Alphatractal shows that many Solana-based memecoins and small tokens are in their worst phase of the year. Some traders even call them “dead” because they have lost most of their value. Only a few payment-focused tokens still show some strength. This shows that the ecosystem is not in its best condition.

At the same time, Coinbase made a big change.

It will now let users trade all Solana tokens through a decentralized exchange (DEX) without going through normal listing steps. This gives Solana tokens more access, but it also brings new risks.

A DEX makes it easy to list low-quality or unsafe tokens. Traders on social media are already warning that this may increase fast rug pulls because anyone can create a token and push it into markets.

For institutions, this mix of weak ecosystem performance and risky new token flows makes the picture more complex. Tokenized securities need a very clean and safe environment. They cannot sit beside thousands of unstable projects.

Why Some Still Prefer Ethereum?

If tokenized securities grow into a large market, the chain that wins this space could become the main place where global assets are settled.

This is one reason Galaxy’s statement is so important. It shows that powerful companies are already choosing sides. But many critics believe Ethereum remains safer for now.

Ethereum has rollups, which are separate layers that handle heavy activity and then settle back on the main chain. These rollups give high speed while keeping the strong security of Ethereum.

Institutions like this because Ethereum has more years of stable use, more developer support, and no full shutdowns.

People who prefer Ethereum might need Solana to prove it can stay active without stopping. For them, speed alone is not enough for the world of tokenized securities.

Plus, institutions want neutral and well-tested systems, not ecosystems that go through sudden outages or large swings in token quality.

So the question stands: Is Galaxy making a forward-looking bet based on Solana’s future strength, or is it ignoring past failures to push a new story?

Solana’s technology is fast and impressive. But real financial markets need reliability more than anything else. Until Solana shows it can run without interruptions, some regulators, and institutions may not trust it to hold tokenized securities.
