Good Good concluded its California road trip at Pebble Beach Golf Links, marking the end of one of the most expensive YouTube golf events to date. The team of Blake Mullen and Mason Greene claimed the title.

“We got to experience all of the good of the road trip and all of the bad of the road trip,” Good Good’s Garrett Clark said. “It’s really special.”

The weeklong road trip began streaming on YouTube a month ago, starting at Omni La Costa in Oceanside, California, before moving north up the coast to its finale at Pebble Beach. Two-man teams—Garrett Clark and Matt Scharff, Sean Walsh and Steve Castaneda, and Mason Greene and Blake Mullen—competed head-to-head to determine who would receive preferred transportation and accommodations each night.

First place earned unrestricted access to the Airbnb and transportation in a Rolls-Royce. Second place received second choice of rooms and a Mustang, while third place was relegated to a Fiat 500 and far less desirable sleeping arrangements.

“We had a lot of downs and had some ups,” Clark said. “Looking back, we thought we were going to get last every time—from paddling over to the island and sleeping in wet pants with no heat, to going into day two and getting first place and finally getting into the Rolls-Royce.”

The first night was spent at a mansion, with Clark and Scharff forced to paddle out to a tent situated on a small island in a man-made lake on the property. Skills challenges were offered to last-place teams, providing opportunities to earn access to food and showers, though those at the bottom still faced an uphill climb.

“The trip was one of the coolest trips I’ve ever been on,” Blake Mullen said.

Mullen and Greene experienced their own highs and lows, including a night spent on a sailboat with a shower so small it was barely usable. The winning team later enjoyed a luxury yacht complete with a private chef, while the losing team slept on the smallest vessel—without a functioning toilet.

“We fought hard. I had a great time this week,” Sean Walsh said. “We rode the roller coaster more than anyone—from the Rolls-Royce right away to the little boat to sleeping in a bathroom in a tent outside. There was euphoria, there was depression—there was everything.”

Other accommodations included a mansion in Malibu, a large home outside of Clovis, California, and a nine-bedroom cottage on the ocean in Monterey, California. The teams played six rounds of golf at Omni La Costa, The Classic Club, Catalina Golf Course, Sandpiper Golf Club, Dragonfly Golf Club, and Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Being the winning team certainly had its perks, with an estimated cost north of $42,000 for the first-place team’s seven-day road trip. Other YouTube golf travel series have likely surpassed $20,000 in total costs, but no other organization has imposed such stark contrasts between winning and losing travel experiences, creating uniquely stressful and compelling storylines.
