Fortem Technologies Begins Deliveries of Next-Generation DroneHunter® 5.0, Advancing Counter-Swarm Defense

Reengineered interceptor is purpose-built for faster capture, smarter autonomy, and coordinated multi-drone defense

LINDON, Utah–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#CUAS–Fortem Technologies, the global leader in airspace security and counter-drone solutions, today announced the first customer deliveries of its next-generation DroneHunter® 5.0 autonomous interceptor, which significantly expands the ability to defend against coordinated multi-drone attacks.

DroneHunter 5.0 represents a clean break from earlier generations, delivering step-change improvements in autonomous decision-making, maneuvering, and speed of capture. That maturity was underscored this month when the Pentagon’s counter-UAS task force selected DroneHunter for its first operational purchase under the Replicator-2 initiative, signaling the interceptor’s readiness for scaled, real-world deployment.

The fifth-generation DroneHunter features dual onboard cameras and enhanced onboard computing power that enable autonomous engagement of multiple targets, even in complex or contested environments. Designed and manufactured in-house by Fortem in the United States, DroneHunter 5.0 incorporates years of operational testing, end-user feedback, and lessons learned from real-world deployments.

The latest model seamlessly integrates with Fortem’s SkyDome® command-and-control system, which can now coordinate up to five DroneHunter 5.0 interceptors against five simultaneous threats. This manned-unmanned teaming architecture is designed to scale in response to increasingly coordinated drone tactics, reflecting a broader shift in the drone threat now unfolding on modern battlefields. In the war between Russia and Ukraine, for example, adversaries are moving beyond individually piloted systems and increasingly deploying coordinated groups designed to operate under electronic attack, execute synchronized maneuvers, and overwhelm traditional air defenses.

In parallel with its autonomous and multi-target capabilities, DroneHunter 5.0 is designed for low-collateral counter-UAS operations across both military and civilian environments. Its patented entanglement-based capture system enables the safe interception, transport, and controlled drop-off of hostile or unauthorized drones, making it suitable for use over sensitive locations such as military bases, airfields, energy infrastructure, and major public events. DroneHunter 5.0’s autonomy reduces operator workload and training requirements, allowing security teams to respond rapidly without continuous manual control.

“The drone threat has evolved dramatically, and we’re ensuring that Fortem’s technology stays ahead of it,” said Jon Gruen, CEO of Fortem Technologies. “The enhanced autonomous capabilities of the fifth-generation DroneHunter allow security forces to counter not just single drones, but coordinated swarm attacks – the kind of threats we’re seeing deployed in conflict zones today and potentially over civilian airspace tomorrow.”

DroneHunter .05 also includes a redesigned airframe and landing gear that reduce setup time and improve field reliability, along with additional safety enhancements for ground handling and operations. In addition, the model offers an optional four-net-gun configuration – double the two-gun standard – providing increased capture capability.
