The blockbuster anime movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is coming to IMAX screens, but depending on your location, you may have to travel halfway across the world to see it.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle opened in North American theaters with its original Japanese dialogue and an English dub on Sept. 12, 2025. Also known as Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, the logline for the movie reads, “The Demon Slayer Corps are drawn into the Infinity Castle, where Tanjiro, Nezuko, and the Hashira face terrifying Upper Rank demons in a desperate fight as the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji begins.”
Directed by Hikaru Kondô and Haruo Sotozaki, the film is still awaiting a streaming release in North America, and when it does, it will likely debut on its studio’s streaming platform, Crunchyroll — which is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Meanwhile, Crunchyroll News recently reported that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is being re-released, but in “IMAX theaters in IMAX ratio, marking the first-ever anime film to be released in the format.”
The catch for North American fans of the film is that it will only be shown in its IMAX ratio at two theaters in Japan — the Grand Cinema Sunshine in Tokyo and 109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City in Osaka — beginning on Feb. 6.
According to Crunchyroll News, the official Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle website has released a trailer (which is embedded below) that shows “the expanded 1.43:1 extended aspect ratio, with more footage on the top and bottom of the screen in certain scenes.”
There’s no word from SPE/Crunchyroll yet on whether Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle will expand to other IMAX venues worldwide, but the company certainly has the bandwidth. As of Sept. 30, 2025, IMAX noted in an October press release, there were 1,829 IMAX systems — made up of 1,759 commercial multiplexes, 10 commercial destinations, 60 institutional locations — that were operating in 89 countries and territories globally.
‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’ Is A Global Box Office Blockbuster
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle first opened in Japan on July 18, 2025, before expanding to other international theaters, where it grossed $588.1 million. Combined with the film’s North American ticket sales, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has grossed more than $722.6 million to date, per Box Office Mojo.
The film has earned more than $246.9 million in Japan, Box Office Mojo reported. According to Crunchyroll News, that tally makes Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle the second-highest-grossing film of all time in the country.
While Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle earned a nomination for the prestigious Award for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures from the Producers Guild of America on Jan. 9, the film was snubbed in the Best Animated Feature category during the 2026 Oscar nominations on Tuesday.
