FC Barcelona has reacted to continued interest in its midfielder Fermin Lopez by meeting with his agents to discuss a contract renewal according to SPORT and its transfer market expert Carlos Montfort, the latter of whom cited anonymous sources on his popular X account.

Fermin came close to leaving his boyhood club in the summer, when Premier League giant Chelsea was eager to acquire his services.

In the end, however, head coach Hansi Flick reportedly put his foot down and blocked the move, which has proven to be a stroke of genius, amid a feeling that the club’s higher ups would never have been forgiven for letting him go.

Though he battled injuries earlier in the campaign, Fermin is arguably Barca’s star performer in the ongoing 2025/2026 season.

This week, he was the deserved MVP of a Champions League clash against Slavia Prague, and sealed the gong with a quickfire brace after Barca had gone a goal down early in the Czech capital.

On the back of his performances, it is no wonder that rival clubs continue to be interested in the Andalusian.

As a reaction to this, in the January transfer window, Barca reportedly held a meeting with the 22-year-old’s agents Xavier Gimenez and Joshua Barnett the day after his exploits on the continent.

FC Barcelona wants to extend Fermin yet again

The CAM only recently renewed his contract until 2029 on Halloween 2024, but Barca wants to extend him for another two years.

The salary of a player almost certain to head to the World Cup with Spain will also be improved, as Barca looks to protect a key figure believed to be a cornerstone of the club’s sporting project for the medium and long term alongside the likes of Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Pau Cubasri.

Given Pedri’s injury and his strong form, Fermin is guaranteed to line up for FC Barcelona against Real Oviedo on Sunday at the Spotify Camp Nou, in the first match Flick’s men have played before Culers in five weeks amid a series of road trips and a successful retaining of the Spanish Super Cup at Real Madrid’s expense in Saudi Arabia.

Fed Decides On Interest Rates Today—Here’s What To Watch For

The post Fed Decides On Interest Rates Today—Here’s What To Watch For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Topline The Federal Reserve on Wednesday will conclude a two-day policymaking meeting and release a decision on whether to lower interest rates—following months of pressure and criticism from President Donald Trump—and potentially signal whether additional cuts are on the way. President Donald Trump has urged the central bank to “CUT INTEREST RATES, NOW, AND BIGGER” than they might plan to. Getty Images Key Facts The central bank is poised to cut interest rates by at least a quarter-point, down from the 4.25% to 4.5% range where they have been held since December to between 4% and 4.25%, as Wall Street has placed 100% odds of a rate cut, according to CME’s FedWatch, with higher odds (94%) on a quarter-point cut than a half-point (6%) reduction. Fed governors Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman, both Trump appointees, voted in July for a quarter-point reduction to rates, and they may dissent again in favor of a large cut alongside Stephen Miran, Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers’ chair, who was sworn in at the meeting’s start on Tuesday. It’s unclear whether other policymakers, including Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid and St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem, will favor larger cuts or opt for no reduction. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said in his Jackson Hole, Wyoming, address last month the central bank would likely consider a looser monetary policy, noting the “shifting balance of risks” on the U.S. economy “may warrant adjusting our policy stance.” David Mericle, an economist for Goldman Sachs, wrote in a note the “key question” for the Fed’s meeting is whether policymakers signal “this is likely the first in a series of consecutive cuts” as the central bank is anticipated to “acknowledge the softening in the labor market,” though they may not “nod to an October cut.” Mericle said he…
