President Donald Trump erupted Tuesday at The New York Times over a recent article that revealed the president had “backtracked” on his previous vow to extract millions of dollars from Harvard over allegations that it had mishandled antisemitism on its campus.

“Why hasn’t the Fake News New York Times adjusted its phony article on the corruption and antisemitism which has taken place at Harvard?” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

“They never call for facts, or factchecks, because the Times’ is a corrupt, unprincipled, and pathetic vehicle of the Left. They wrote only negatively about me in the last Election, and I won in a landslide.”

Harvard was one of many targets of the Trump administration’s efforts to exert more control over Ivy League schools, an effort that was couched in claims that higher education leaders had failed to adequately respond to instances of antisemitism. A number of universities saw massive protests beginning in 2024 amid Israel’s siege on Gaza calling on their institutes to divest from Israel.

Regarding Harvard, Trump had demanded the university fork over $200 million to his administration to resolve the dispute, but according to the Times, had backtracked on that demand, according to multiple Harvard and Trump officials who spoke with the outlet on the condition of anonymity.

“To anyone who knows, they have ZERO credibility, a ‘Rag’ at the lowest level,” Trump continued. “I look forward to watching their rapidly falling circulation force them to finally close their doors. That would be great news for America!”
