President Donald Trump does not hesitate to lash out at people who criticize him, even those who have supported him for years — but he has maintained an eerie silence about one person who is turning on him, CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin told MS NOW on Thursday: Ken Griffin.
Griffin, who heads up the powerful Citadel hedge fund, is a longtime GOP megadonor who has backed Trump in many endeavors, but he is now accusing the president of corruptly enriching himself, his family, and his friends with the power of the White House.
Indeed, Sorkin said, this has been a long time coming.
"You know, the truth is actually, Ken Griffin has been consistent," said Sorkin. "He's been one of the very few business leaders in America who has spoken out and been at odds with some of the things that President Trump has done or this administration efforts. He's been public about those things literally from the very beginning. So this is actually not new."
As a matter of fact, Sorkin continued, Griffin "had an op-ed, by the way, in the Wall Street Journal just a couple of months ago about what was happening with Jay Powell, the head of the Fed, and how he was not a fan of that. So there have been times that he has been outspoken."
What's important to remember, added Sorkin, is that "he is not just any, you know, senior businessperson in the, in the business community, but a Republican who has been quite supportive of Republicans historically, but has been willing to speak his, speak his piece, if you will. And for whatever reason, we have not heard the president, you know, slap back at him."
