Donald Trump's obsession with winning the Nobel Peace Prize is being blamed for "effectively blowing up" negotiations between the U.S., after an announcement from the Polish ambassador on social media.

On Thursday, U.S. Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose took to X to announce that the U.S. would be ceasing all contact with the Marshal, or speaker, of the Sejm, the lower chamber of Poland's parliament. Rose cited "unprovoked insults" made by the marshal towards Trump.

"Effective immediately, we will have no further dealings, contacts, or communications with Marshal of the Sejm [Włodzimierz] Czarzasty whose outrageous and unprovoked insults directed against President Trump ... has made himself a serious impediment to our excellent relations with Prime Minister [Donald] Tusk and his government," Rose's post read. "We will not permit anyone to harm U.S.–Polish relations, nor disrespect [Trump], who has done so much for Poland and the Polish people."

Rose's account did not specify the specifics about what Trump has done to help "Poland and the Polish people."

In a recent address to the press, Czarzasty said that Trump did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his recent threats against Europe and NATO during his campaign to annex Greenland from Denmark. In addition to those threats, he also specifically singled out Trump's insinuation that NATO forces from Europe did not fight with the U.S. on the front lines in Afghanistan.

"This is a breach of the politics of principles and values, often a breach of international law," Czarzasty said.

Trump has long maintained an obsession with winning the Nobel Peace Prize, with many observers suggesting a level of jealousy over his first-term predecessor, Barack Obama, winning one shortly after he was elected in 2008. Trump has argued that Obama did nothing to earn the award, while also making dubious claims about himself deserving the prize for ending several wars in his second term.

The obsession has risen to the point of disrupting international politics. Trump reportedly declined to back Venezuelan opposition leader, María Machado, to succeed Nicolás Maduro because she accepted last year's Peace Prize, prompting her to later gift him her medal. Trump also told the government in Norway, which has no say in the Nobel Prize decision-making processes, that his push to take Greenland was a direct result of his not winning the Peace Prize in 2025.

"The US Ambassador to Poland announced he’ll end all contact with the speaker of the Polish Parliament, effectively blowing up the US-Poland relationship over the speaker of the Polish Parliament saying he wouldn’t support Trump’s push for the Nobel peace prize," a news and politics account on X, Daractenus, wrote in a post responding to Rose. "Just surreal."
