MANILA, Philippines – Carlos Yulo has nothing else to prove.
His two Olympic crowns, three world titles, and a huge haul of gold medals in the Asian Championships and Southeast Asian Games make him one of the most decorated Filipino athletes of all time.
But the 26-year-old knows he has plenty of gas left in the tank.
Yulo sees himself battling for Olympic glory in the 2028 Los Angeles Games, and even competing until 2032 when he is already in his early 30s.
“This is not the end of my journey,” said Yulo, who was named Athlete of the Year by the Philippine Sportswriters Association for the second straight time, sharing the honors with tennis star Alex Eala.
“There is the LA Olympics. And after that, I have no idea if I’ll continue competing. But I can say that I can go all the way to 2032. I’m just really praying that I’ll always be safe in all my competitions and trainings.”
Yulo has seen action sporadically since he became the Philippines’ first double Olympic champion in the 2024 Paris Games, but he makes sure to always be at his best.
In the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in June 2025 in Jecheon, South Korea, his first event since the 2024 Olympics, Yulo won the floor exercise gold for the fourth straight edition and also bagged bronzes in all-around, vault, and parallel bars.
He then captured the vault title in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, in October 2025 to go with a floor exercise bronze.
Those feats were more than enough for Yulo to join several other Filipino sports legends who have won multiple Athlete of the Year awards.
“I’m very blessed and I’m really thankful to the Lord for allowing me to experience things like this” said Yulo. “It inspires me to do even better and work harder so I can continue learning in my next journey.” – Rappler.com
