Ethereum Foundation and Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently made new posts regarding DeFi.

The Ethereum Foundation stated that it wants to see DeFi evolve, noting that DeFi is an inevitable evolution of finance and an integral part of ETH. They also added that they do not support any single token or DeFi project.

Vitalik Buterin echoed the same message, stating that DeFi is a fundamental part of Ethereum’s value. He further added that the Ethereum Foundation (EF), rather than broadly supporting on-chain finance, would prioritize permissionless, open-source, privacy and security-focused finance that minimizes intermediaries and strengthens user asset control.

In a post from his X account, Buterin stated that decentralized finance (DeFi) is a critical pillar of Ethereum’s core values.

He stated that decentralized finance and financial empowerment are important dimensions of achieving autonomy and freedom in today’s world.

While finance isn’t Ethereum’s sole purpose, it’s vital for ETH. According to Buterin, the current DeFi landscape offers global users some of the world’s best savings, risk management, and wealth creation opportunities in a permissionless way.

Buterin argued that the challenge for DeFi lies not just in creating better stablecoins, but in redesigning the fundamental structure of financial problems. He said DeFi needs to move beyond superficial products like stablecoins and focus on deeper issues such as risk management and hedging against future expenses.

Buterin concluded by emphasizing the need to revive the spirit of early DeFi.
