Ex-Trump Border Patrol boss who disparaged migrants once claimed minority status: report

An earlier report revealed that ousted Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino claimed minority status, identifying as a Cherokee Native American since age 8, despite admitting in 2018 testimony to calling undocumented migrants "scum," "filth," and "trash."

Legal documents obtained by The New York Times show Bovino testified in a discrimination lawsuit filed by four Department of Homeland Security employees, but was not registered on any official tribal rolls.

Bovino was removed from his "commander at large" position in January following the deadly Minnesota immigration enforcement operation that killed American citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

Current and former DHS officials described him as a longstanding "chronic institutional headache," with former Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Chris Magnus calling his interactions with colleagues and subordinates "unprofessional, disturbing and obnoxious."

Bovino is set to retire this week.
