Rep. Mark Harris (R-NC) recounted an encounter with a TSA agent at a Charlotte checkpoint during the partial government shutdown when agents weren't being paid.
Harris said he thanked the agent, who didn't recognize him as a congressman.
The agent allegedly complained that "low IQ people in Washington, D.C." created the mess, and Harris allegedly agreed. When Harris revealed he was in Congress, the agent asked if he was among those "low IQ people." Harris then apologized on behalf of Democrats, suggesting they fit the agent's description.
Harris used the anecdote to support Trump's criticism of Washington leadership and call for Senate action.
Democrats have proposed separate TSA funding bills while negotiations continue over ICE changes in exchange for DHS funding, but Republicans blocked the TSA bills, demanding full DHS funding instead.
