An account celebrating an Army Veteran got deleted after MAGA backlash

The U.S. Army shut down its "Soldier for Life" social media accounts after a post celebrating Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth, a Purple Heart recipient who lost both legs in combat, prompted online criticism from a pro-Trump veteran, NOTUS reported.

The program, which connects veterans to employment, healthcare, and retirement resources, posted a tribute to Duckworth's military career as an Army lieutenant colonel and Iraq War veteran.

Former Army paratrooper Chase Spears criticized the post on X, calling Duckworth "one of the most brazenly hostile partisans to have worn the uniform."

Within 24 hours, the Duckworth's post was deleted and the Soldier for Life Facebook page was locked down.

According to The Hill, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll ordered the accounts shuttered following the negative reaction, though an Army spokesperson attributed the move to routine account deactivation procedures outlined in a December memo.
