XRP Ledger validators are under fresh pressure to update their nodes as version 3.1.3 moves toward amendment activation.

Summary
  • XRPL version 3.1.3 includes the fixCleanup3_1_3 amendment, which is expected to activate on May 27.
  • Validators running older software may face amendment blocking and lose normal transaction processing access.
  • The update comes as crypto.news reports rising XRP Ledger activity and stronger spot XRP ETF inflows.

The fixCleanup3_1_3 amendment entered a two-week activation period and is expected to activate on May 27, 2026.

The release follows the May 8 announcement of XRPL 3.1.3. The update includes one default-yes fix amendment, meaning operators do not need to vote manually. They need to upgrade their software so their nodes can follow the new network rules.

Validators face amendment blocking risk

XRPL Foundation community director Hussein Zangana, known as Vet on X, warned that only about 40% of the XRP network had updated its nodes more than a week after the release, according to reports. The warning matters because older servers may stop working with the network after the amendment activates.

Amendment blocking is a safety mechanism. When the XRP Ledger enables a new amendment, older servers without the new code may no longer understand the updated rules. Instead of reading ledger data incorrectly, those servers become blocked from normal transaction and consensus functions.

Moreover, the fixCleanup3_1_3 amendment carries fixes across NFTs, Permissioned Domains, Vaults and the Lending Protocol. It addresses expired NFTokenOffer entries that remained on the ledger. Once active, an expired NFT offer can be removed during NFTokenAcceptOffer transaction processing.

The update also adds checks for Permissioned Domains and vault withdrawals. VaultWithdraw transactions will respect the destination address trust line token limit. The release also fixes loan accounting data tied to Loan, LoanBroker and Vault entries.

XRP market activity adds attention

The validator deadline comes during a busy period for XRP. crypto.news reported that XRP Ledger activity rose sharply after XRP briefly traded above $1.54 for the first time in two months. Santiment data cited in the report showed 48,453 active addresses, the highest level since March 30.

Spot XRP ETFs also saw stronger demand. crypto.news reported $60.5 million in weekly net inflows, the strongest week since late December 2025. That market activity puts more focus on network reliability as validators prepare for the May 27 upgrade deadline.
