Law enforcement is responding to an active shooter situation at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, on Thursday afternoon, CBS is reporting.
West Bloomfield police, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, and Michigan State Police have responded to the scene. Emergency personnel are working to evacuate the synagogue.
The public has been instructed to avoid the area. Multiple schools in the region—West Bloomfield High School, West Bloomfield Middle School, Doherty Elementary School, and Bloomfield Hills Schools—are currently in secure mode as a precaution.
Michigan State Police confirmed the incident in a post on X, stating: "We are aware of an active shooting incident that is ongoing in West Bloomfield. We are asking for community members to stay away from the area to allow for police response."
State police have increased patrols at other places of worship throughout the district.
