PETALING JAYA: PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil has expressed regret over Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung’s resignation from the party’s central leadership council today.

Fahmi, who is also the communications minister, said Lee should have used the council as a platform to share differing views on the party’s direction.

He said the council includes members with differing opinions, among them being former Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong.

“Very often during council meetings, she (Wong) would give views that differ greatly from the president’s or other leaders,” he said at his ministry’s press conference today.

“She was once from a different group, but she still upheld her principles by expressing her views … (and) used the (council) to ensure the party stays on the right track.”

He said Lee should have done the same.

Fahmi also said Lee must explain his decision to leave the council to Petaling Jaya voters, particularly PKR members.

Earlier today, Lee announced his resignation from the council – the party’s top decision-making body – but said he would remain a PKR member and continue serving as an MP until Parliament is dissolved.

His decision came a week after he lost access to MyKhas, a portal managing parliamentary allocations.

Lee said the revocation of his access on May 29 had “punished” Petaling Jaya voters by preventing him from handling constituency funds and programmes.

Responding to the claim, Fahmi said Lee had not raised the matter with him.

“We can discuss any issue. Where there is a will, there is a way,” he said.
