The trailer for Anderson .Paak’s musical family comedy, K-Pops!, has officially dropped.
The Grammy Award-winning artist first premiered his debut feature film at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, which received positive reviews from critics. It was later acquired by Aura Entertainment following its premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. Now, the film is set for a wide release exclusively at AMC theaters on February 27.
Written by .Paak and Khaila Amazan, K-Pops! tells the story of washed-out musician BJ (.Paak) who wants to revive his music career. He is offered a gig with a house band in Seoul for a K-pop competition show. While working on the show, he meets an aspiring K-pop artist, Tae Young (played by .Paak’s son, Soul Rasheed), who he discovers is his son from a past love affair. Together, through their shared love of music and culture, they rebuild their relationships, learn to trust each other, and evolve as individuals and artists.
.Paak previously told Forbes, “I co-wrote [K-Pops!] and am directing it. I’m really excited about it. Long story short: I find out that my son, who I never knew, might become the next big K-pop star.”
The film also stars Jee Young Han, Jon “Dumbfoundead” Park, Yvette Nicole Brown, Cathy Shim, Will Jay, Emi Kim, Riley Lai Nelet, Eddie Park, and Kevin Woo. It features cameos by streamer IShowSpeed, Diplo, SEVENTEEN’s Vernon, Crush, The Rose, and Jaden Smith, to name a few.
In the trailer, .Paak’s character, BJ, finds himself in South Korea working on the K-pop music survival competition series, “Wildcard.” He befriends a contestant, Tae Young, who is also his long-lost son with his past lover. BJ, who knows nothing about K-pop, helps his son through the competition, as he also reconnects with Tae Young’s mother, Yeji (Han).
.Paak, who is of mixed Korean descent, is no stranger to the genre of K-pop, having worked with top K-pop stars like G-DRAGON and BTS. He worked closely with known K-pop producer Dem Jointz on the film’s soundtrack.
K-Pops! premieres everywhere exclusively at AMC theaters on February 27.
