Stabilus SE, a global supplier of motion control solutions, is expanding its industrial automation business by consolidating technological expertise under the Stabilus4Automation umbrella. The company aims to strengthen its position in a structurally growing market by offering integrated solutions for automated production processes, with robotics playing an increasingly important role.
CEO Dr. Michael Buchsner stated that industrial automation represents an important growth area for Stabilus, with the company leveraging synergies within the group to develop technology portfolios for demanding automation applications. The global addressable market for end-of-arm tooling, gripping systems and robotic tooling solutions amounts to approximately EUR 3 billion and is expected to continue growing at double-digit rates amid increasing automation across industry, logistics and manufacturing.
According to the company’s long-term strategy, around EUR 500 million in revenue are to be generated from new, innovative products that deliver above-average margin levels, with the Automation segment expected to make significant contributions. The company plans to implement selected automation solutions in its own production plants to optimize manufacturing processes and incorporate practical experience into product development.
Industrial robotics represents an attractive field of development where numerous existing Stabilus Group products are increasingly being deployed. Components for controlled movement, damping, and vibration reduction are particularly in demand in highly dynamic, automated handling and manufacturing processes requiring high precision, short cycle times, and maximum availability.
Jurgen Roland, Head of the Industrial Components business unit, explained that Stabilus views industrial automation as an integrated system of required movements. The company already offers powerful end-of-arm tools and advanced solutions for cobots and robots with small payloads, working with more than 100 partners worldwide in robotics. In a pilot project, Stabilus has implemented its own 360-degree drive solution for robot joints.
One example of the group-wide approach is a handling solution developed jointly by Destaco and ACE, combining automation expertise and damping technology to create a powerful end-of-arm tool used as a gripping tool in modern production environments. By integrating ACE’s MC series miniature shock absorbers into the EOAT design, the handling of packages is enhanced while improving protection of equipment and goods.
These applications illustrate Stabilus’ approach of combining technological expertise with specific use cases, focusing on modular, scalable solutions that can be flexibly integrated into existing production lines. Driven by trends including skilled worker shortages, increasing quality requirements, and the need for more efficient manufacturing processes, industrial automation and robotics continue gaining importance, creating additional growth prospects for Stabilus in industrial end markets.
