What’s in your baon?

MANILA, Philippines – Children are often picky eaters, and choosing which snacks to send them to school with can be a challenge. Preparing their baon is commitment enough, but whether they would actually eat what you prepare for them is another matter. So, many parents and guardians — understandably — acquiesce to those tasty treats readily available in grocery stores.

But how much sugar, salt, and fat are in your child’s favorite store-bought snacks? How may these tasty treats affect children’s future health? And how would front-of-pack warning labels impact how we choose these snacks? Steph Arnaldo talks to a group of parents and their children, and registered nutritionist Shay Castillo to find out what really is in our kids’ baon.
