What You Need Before You Start
- A desktop or mobile device
- A self-custody crypto wallet (MetaMask, Rabby, or the Hyperliquid app)
- USDC on the Arbitrum network (we’ll cover how to get this below)
That’s it. No government ID. No email address. No password. Just a wallet and some USDC. For a full overview of what Hyperliquid offers, see our Hyperliquid review. Curious why no ID is needed? Our Hyperliquid KYC guide explains the legal and structural reasons behind it.
Step 1: Choose and Set Up Your Wallet
Setting up MetaMask (recommended):
- Go to metamask.io and install the browser extension for Chrome or Firefox.
- Click Create a new wallet and follow the prompts.
- Write down your 12-word seed phrase on paper and store it somewhere offline and secure. This is the only way to recover your wallet — never share it with anyone.
- Set a strong local password for the extension.
- Switch MetaMask to the Arbitrum One network. If it’s not listed, go to chainlist.org, search “Arbitrum One,” and click “Add to MetaMask.”

Step 2: Fund Your Wallet with USDC on Arbitrum
Hyperliquid only accepts USDC on the Arbitrum network. Here are three ways to get it:
Option A: Buy USDC on Arbitrum directly from Coinbase
- Create or log into your Coinbase account.
- Buy USDC using your bank card or bank transfer.
- Go to Send/Receive → Send → choose Arbitrum network.
- Paste your MetaMask wallet address and confirm.
- USDC arrives in your MetaMask Arbitrum wallet within minutes.
Option B: Bridge from Ethereum mainnet
If you already have USDC on Ethereum mainnet, bridge it to Arbitrum using the official Arbitrum Bridge. This takes ~10 minutes and costs a small ETH gas fee.
Option C: Buy via MoonPay within MetaMask
MetaMask has a built-in fiat on-ramp via MoonPay. Open MetaMask → Buy → MoonPay → select USDC on Arbitrum. Higher fees than Coinbase but the most convenient option for beginners.
Step 3: Bridge USDC to Hyperliquid
- Go to app.hyperliquid.xyz.
- Click Connect Wallet in the top right and select MetaMask.
- Approve the connection and sign the authentication message.
- Click Deposit and enter your USDC amount.
- Approve the two MetaMask transactions (spend approval + bridge deposit).
- Wait 1–3 minutes. Your USDC balance will appear in the Hyperliquid portfolio.
⚠️ Always use Arbitrum One (not Ethereum mainnet, not BSC, not any other chain). The deposit fee is zero — you only pay the small Arbitrum gas fee. For the full fee structure including trading and withdrawal costs, see our Hyperliquid fees guide.

Once connected and funded, here’s what you’ll see on the Hyperliquid interface:
- Portfolio tab: Your USDC balance, open positions, order history, and PnL.
- Trade tab: The main trading interface — order book, price chart, order entry panel.
- Vaults tab: Deposit into community-run strategy vaults for passive yield. See our Hyperliquid vaults guide for how these work.
- Leaderboard: Top traders ranked by PnL, Sharpe ratio, and win rate — all public on-chain.
- Settings: API key management, notification preferences, display options.
Step 5: Place Your First Trade
- Go to Trade and select BTC-PERP from the market selector.
- In the order panel on the right, choose Market order type.
- Set leverage to 1x for your first trade (you can increase later).
- Enter $10 or any small amount to practice.
- Click Buy/Long and confirm the order.
- Your position appears immediately in the Positions section below the chart.
Once you’re comfortable, explore our proven trading strategies guide — it covers trend following, funding rate arbitrage, and how to copy top leaderboard traders.

Step 6: How to Withdraw Your Funds
- Go to Portfolio → Withdraw.
- Enter the amount of USDC you want to withdraw to Arbitrum.
- Confirm the transaction in MetaMask.
- USDC arrives in your Arbitrum wallet within 5–15 minutes.
- A small flat withdrawal fee (~$1–$2) is deducted from the withdrawal amount.
Troubleshooting: Common Sign-Up Problems
- MetaMask showing wrong network: Click the network selector in MetaMask and switch to Arbitrum One. If not listed, add it via chainlist.org.
- USDC on wrong chain: If you sent USDC from Ethereum mainnet without bridging, use the Arbitrum bridge to move it. Do not try to send again directly.
- Deposit not appearing: Check your transaction on Arbiscan.io. If confirmed on Arbitrum, wait up to 5 minutes for Hyperliquid to credit it.
- Withdrawal taking long: Normal withdrawal time is 5–15 minutes. During high Arbitrum congestion, it can take up to 30 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to verify my identity on Hyperliquid?
No. Hyperliquid requires zero identity verification. Your wallet address is your entire account — no email, no password, no ID document. Read our KYC guide for a detailed breakdown of what information is (and isn’t) visible on-chain.
What is the minimum deposit on Hyperliquid?
No enforced minimum, but $10–$20 USDC is practical to cover gas fees and leave margin for a small trade.
Is there a referral bonus on Hyperliquid?
Hyperliquid does not currently offer a traditional referral bonus program. All fee revenue goes to the protocol (HYPE buybacks) rather than affiliate payouts.
How do I buy Hyperliquid (how to buy hyperliquid)?
Hyperliquid itself is a platform, not a token you “buy.” To access it, follow the steps above. If you want to buy the HYPE token, see our step-by-step guide to buying HYPE directly on the Hyperliquid spot market — no CEX required.
Setting up on Hyperliquid takes 10 minutes and requires nothing but a wallet and USDC. No ID, no email, no forms — just connect and trade. For a more detailed look at the platform before depositing, read our Hyperliquid safety and legitimacy review.
