GOP operatives banned from red state campus over slur-filled group chats: report

A pair of college GOP operatives have been banned from the campus of Florida International University, amid the continuing fallout from a scandal involving exposed, slur-filled group chats.

According to the Miami Herald, "Abel Carvajal, the creator of the group chat and a third-year law student, was found responsible for an 'affirmative act which aids, attempts, promotes, conceals, or facilitates' violations of the Student Code of Conduct after a sanctions hearing last month, according to court records. He told the Miami Herald he has filed an appeal with the school contesting the decision."

Meanwhile, "Dariel Gonzalez, who was the FIU College Republicans’ recruitment chairman at the time, was found responsible for violating a part of the conduct code that bars 'verbal or written abuse, threats, intimidation and/or coercion that objectively endangers the health, safety or well-being of others' and for driving while under the influence of alcohol and smoking marijuana on campus," said the report.

Gonzalez has been receiving legal representation from Anthony Sabatini, a scandal-plagued former far-right MAGA lawmaker currently serving as the commissioner of Lake County.

The group chat, exposed over two months ago, showed several young GOP operatives fantasizing about genocide and repeating a racial slur. One participant wrote out gruesome fantasies about killing and mutilating Black people, including "crucify filthy blacks," "curb stomp pregnant black [expletive]," "exterminate [expletive] in the gas chamber," "feed [expletive] to alligators," "stomp [expletive] skulls with steel toed boots," and "drown [expletive] in fried chicken grease."

Last year, a similar scandal rocked the national Young Republicans group, when Telegram chats leaked showing members speaking admiringly of slavery and Adolf Hitler, calling Black people monkeys and "watermelon people," and fantasizing about raping or gassing their enemies. Some GOP political consultants and a state legislator in Vermont were caught up in the chats.
