It’s been nearly 15 years since Kate Bush released a new album, but since delivering 50 Words for Snow back in 2011, the beloved English superstar has remained a favorite among music aficionados. Not long after she suggested that new music may be in the works, the singer-songwriter collects a new bestselling album in her home country of the United Kingdom. The legendary artist returns with a newly-released compilation, Best of the Other Sides, which brings her back to one ranking with a debut for the first time in nearly a decade.

Kate Bush Returns With Best of the Other Sides

Best of the Other Sides debuts at No. 16 on the Official Album Downloads chart this week. The ranking measures the top-selling titles of any length, genre, or language purchased digitally through platforms like iTunes in the U.K. Bush’s newly-shared compilation becomes her thirteenth career placement on the list as it arrives.

A Rare Chart Comeback for Kate Bush

Best of the Other Sides marks Bush’s first new entry on the tally since December 2016, nearly a decade ago. The last time she debuted a title on the Official Album Downloads chart was with Before the Dawn, which arrived and peaked at No. 8 that month.

How Kate Bush Built a Legacy of Top 10 Bestsellers

Throughout her career, Bush has climbed as high as No. 2 on the Official Album Downloads chart, a position she reached with The Whole Story. Throughout the years, she has collected five top 10s in total, including Before the Dawn and The Whole Story, as well as fellow standouts Director’s Cut (No. 4), 50 Words for Snow (No. 6), and Hounds of Love (No. 10).

What’s Included on Kate Bush’s Best of the Other Sides

Best of the Other Sides compiles B-sides and rarities from throughout Bush’s career, and it is filled with songs that never appeared on her proper studio albums. The set became available digitally on September 26, while vinyl and CD editions are set to arrive on Halloween.

The songs featured on Best of the Other Sides were first issued as part of the 2018 box set The Other Sides, which sold out quickly and has been out of print ever since, and some fans have been waiting years to access these tracks again.

Bush revealed on her website that several tracks featured on Best of the Other Sides have been remastered, and a few even feature small edits, meaning diehard fans may notice subtle differences compared to their earlier versions.

Kate Bush Competes With Perrie, Olivia Dean, and Mariah Carey

On the Official Album Downloads chart, Bush scores the eleventh-highest debut this frame. The list this week is led by Perrie — formerly of Little Mix — who launches her self-titled studio effort on her own at No. 1. Solo women dominate the top three, as Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving and Mariah Carey’s Here for It All open at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Several other acts, including Kylie Minogue, Robert Plant, and Doja Cat, also start ahead of Bush this week.

How “Running Up That Hill” Revived Kate Bush’s Legacy

Bush has experienced a remarkable resurgence in commercial viability throughout the past few years. Her 1985 single “Running Up That Hill” went viral and turned into a massive late-career hit, finally making it to No. 1 in the United Kingdom decades after its original release.

In a 2024 interview with the BBC, Bush said she’s “looking forward to getting back into that creative space,” hinting that a new album may be coming. Since then, she’s shared few updates, but even a small hint of new music from one of the U.K.’s most celebrated singer-songwriters remains exciting — though for now, her focus seems to be on revisiting her past material.

The Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 25 basis points, and Powell said this was a risk management cut

PANews reported on September 18th, according to the Securities Times, that at 2:00 AM Beijing time on September 18th, the Federal Reserve announced a 25 basis point interest rate cut, lowering the federal funds rate from 4.25%-4.50% to 4.00%-4.25%, in line with market expectations. The Fed's interest rate announcement triggered a sharp market reaction, with the three major US stock indices rising briefly before quickly plunging. The US dollar index plummeted, briefly hitting a new low since 2025, before rebounding sharply, turning a decline into an upward trend. The sharp market volatility was closely tied to the subsequent monetary policy press conference held by Federal Reserve Chairman Powell. He stated that the 50 basis point rate cut lacked broad support and that there was no need for a swift adjustment. Today's move could be viewed as a risk-management cut, suggesting the Fed will not enter a sustained cycle of rate cuts. Powell reiterated the Fed's unwavering commitment to maintaining its independence. Market participants are currently unaware of the risks to the Fed's independence. The latest published interest rate dot plot shows that the median expectation of Fed officials is to cut interest rates twice more this year (by 25 basis points each), one more than predicted in June this year. At the same time, Fed officials expect that after three rate cuts this year, there will be another 25 basis point cut in 2026 and 2027.
