How To Play Wordle

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

CRONE wasn’t a very good opener today, leaving me with 238 remaining solutions and two yellow boxes. I suppose it could be worse. I probably should have guessed all new letters, but sometimes hope outweighs judgment. Guessing in two is always awesome. ALERT only slashed that number down to 18, however. Not great. PERIL left me with just two: LEMUR or LEVER. I was 99.99999% sure we’d had LEMUR before, so I went with LEVER and that was the Wordle! Bangarang!

We tied with four today, so neither the Wordle Bot or myself get any points. We do not get to double 0 for 2XP Friday (well, we can, but it’s still 0!) and our October totals remain:

Erik: 8 points

Wordle Bot: 6 point

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word lever comes from Middle English levour, from Old French levier, derived from the Latin levāre, meaning “to raise” or “lift,” which itself comes from levis, meaning “light” (in weight). So etymologically, lever means “a device for lifting.”
