AI Market News: Cloudflare, Visa, Mastercard & AmEx Create AI Payment Rails

Cloudflare collaborates with Visa, Mastercard and AmEx to construct safe, AI-powered payment channels to agentic commerce, reshaping digital transactions permanently.

Cloudflare has collaborated with Visa, Mastercard, and American Express in an effort to change the face of commerce by coming up with revolutionary standards of AI-enabled transactions.

This collaboration will establish the foundations of what is referred to as agentic commerce, an economy in which autonomous AI agents shop, negotiate, and process payments on their own.

Innovating Autonomous Commerce with Trust Protocols

The collaboration between Cloudflare and Visa is based on the Trusted Agent Protocol, a new technology that authenticates AI-powered shopping bots through Web Bot Auth.

AmEx and Mastercard are pursuing the same model in their AI commerce models. The technology allows merchants to authenticate trusted agents in real time, rendering transactions safe and scalable. This protocol is significant in securing millions of digital transactions.

As the number of AI agents performing all purchasing services, including travel and subscription services, increases, they need a strong infrastructure to facilitate immediate and safe payments both in crypto- and stablecoin-based and traditional currencies.

The Untapped Potential of Agentic Payments

The initiative of Cloudflare is a component of a wider move to standardize machine-to-machine payments.

Recent efforts by the company involve plans to launch a NET Dollar stablecoin and open the x402 Foundation with Coinbase, with the goal of establishing universal protocol standards with these autonomous agents.

Visa and Mastercard, industry leaders, are convinced that this new payment infrastructure will unleash the floodgates of the agentic economy.

The CEO of Tether, Paolo Ardoino, estimates that the number of AI-based agents utilizing cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and USDT will be in the trillions in the coming 15 years.

These agents will depend on programmable, immediately transferable digital assets as they become financially autonomous.

Who’s Leading the Charge? Early Collaborators and Future Vision

Other players in the industry, such as Microsoft, Shopify, and Circle, are also making investments in this push in addition to the above giants, and this is an initial sign of a coordinated move towards autonomous, secure, and transparent transactions.

Stephanie Cohen, the chief strategy officer at Cloudflare, cites the strategic importance as well: the future of commerce is agentic, and Cloudflare is forming the trustworthy foundation of it.

The technology will facilitate an easy ecosystem where the AI agents can negotiate, make payments, and settle on various platforms without engaging human beings, thus changing the manner in which transactions are undertaken.

Aave DAO to Shut Down 50% of L2s While Doubling Down on GHO

Aave DAO to Shut Down 50% of L2s While Doubling Down on GHO

The post Aave DAO to Shut Down 50% of L2s While Doubling Down on GHO appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Aave DAO is gearing up for a significant overhaul by shutting down over 50% of underperforming L2 instances. It is also restructuring its governance framework and deploying over $100 million to boost GHO. This could be a pivotal moment that propels Aave back to the forefront of on-chain lending or sparks unprecedented controversy within the DeFi community. Sponsored Sponsored ACI Proposes Shutting Down 50% of L2s The “State of the Union” report by the Aave Chan Initiative (ACI) paints a candid picture. After a turbulent period in the DeFi market and internal challenges, Aave (AAVE) now leads in key metrics: TVL, revenue, market share, and borrowing volume. Aave’s annual revenue of $130 million surpasses the combined cash reserves of its competitors. Tokenomics improvements and the AAVE token buyback program have also contributed to the ecosystem’s growth. Aave global metrics. Source: Aave However, the ACI’s report also highlights several pain points. First, regarding the Layer-2 (L2) strategy. While Aave’s L2 strategy was once a key driver of success, it is no longer fit for purpose. Over half of Aave’s instances on L2s and alt-L1s are not economically viable. Based on year-to-date data, over 86.6% of Aave’s revenue comes from the mainnet, indicating that everything else is a side quest. On this basis, ACI proposes closing underperforming networks. The DAO should invest in key networks with significant differentiators. Second, ACI is pushing for a complete overhaul of the “friendly fork” framework, as most have been unimpressive regarding TVL and revenue. In some cases, attackers have exploited them to Aave’s detriment, as seen with Spark. Sponsored Sponsored “The friendly fork model had a good intention but bad execution where the DAO was too friendly towards these forks, allowing the DAO only little upside,” the report states. Third, the instance model, once a smart…
