Jisoo Joins Her Blackpink Bandmates With Her First Solo Radio Smash

In February of this year, Jisoo became the final member of Blackpink to release a project on her own. The singer dropped her Amortage EP on Valentine’s Day, but sadly, the set was not a major commercial win in the United States.

Only a few months later, she recently returned with “Eyes Closed,” a collaboration with former One Direction star Zayn. That tune improved her fortunes as a soloist and became her first win on a number of Billboard charts.

Less than a month after the track was released, it reaches one of the most competitive radio rankings in the United States and helps Jisoo prove once again that she has the power to score a hit without her bandmates.

“Eyes Closed” Debuts on Billboard’s Pop Airplay Chart

“Eyes Closed” arrives on the Pop Airplay chart this week at No. 38. The tally ranks the 40 songs that rack up the largest total number of audience impressions across the country on radio stations that focus on top 40 pop. It is widely considered one of the most competitive airplay tallies in the nation and certainly the hardest to reach of the three that focus on pop music.

Which Blackpink Member Has Scored the Most Pop Radio Hits?

Of the other three singers that make up the South Korean girl group Blackpink, Lisa is the most successful, at least when it comes to the greatest number of hits on the Pop Airplay roster. Lisa has sent five tracks to the tally under her own name. Three of them — “Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me),” “Money,” and “Rockstar” — are completely solo affairs, while “Born Again” credits Doja Cat and Raye, and Lisa served as a featured act on Maroon 5’s “Priceless.”

The other two superstars that are counted as members of Blackpink, Jennie and Rosé, are tied with three appearances each on the Pop Airplay tally. Rosé’s “Apt.,” her collaboration with Bruno Mars, is one of only two tunes that can be called K-pop that have hit No. 1 on the Pop Airplay list, alongside “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters, which reaches that space this frame for the first time. Her other solo hits include “On My Mind” with singer-songwriter Alex Warren and “Toxic Till the End.”

Jennie first appeared on the Pop Airplay list in February of last year alongside The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp on “One of the Girls.” She then pushed her own “Mantra” and later “Like Jennie” to the same roster.

What Is Blackpink’s Biggest Radio Hit?

As a group, Blackpink has racked up a trio of wins on the Pop Airplay chart. The band hit a new high earlier this year with “Jump,” its anthemic comeback single, which peaked at No. 19 and held on for a lucky 13 frames, making it the outfit’s most successful cut yet in every regard. Blackpink first appeared on the list half a decade ago with “Ice Cream,” a collaboration with Selena Gomez. Two years later, “Pink Venom” returned Blackpink to the ranking.

Zayn Adds Another Radio Smash to His Catalog

Zayn scores his eighth hit on the Pop Airplay chart as a solo star. “Eyes Closed” ranks as his lowest-peaking tune so far, behind “Love Like This” and “Dusk Till Dawn” with Sia, but it could climb in the coming weeks. Zayn’s breakout hit on his own, “Pillowtalk,” spent two weeks at No. 1 almost a decade ago. One Direction charted 13 smashes as both a quintet and then a foursome – four of which broke into the loftiest tier.

Jisoo and Zayn Join Raye and Laufey on the Pop Radio Chart

Only three songs debut on the Pop Airplay chart this week, and Jisoo and Zayn claim the second-loftiest of the bunch. Raye’s new cut “Where Is My Husband!” opens at No. 34, while “Lover Girl” by Laufey starts at No. 39, one space beneath “Eyes Closed.”

“Eyes Closed” Earns Jisoo Multiple Billboard Firsts

“Eyes Closed” has marked several firsts for Jisoo during its short life. The track brought her to the Hot 100 for the first time under her own name when it debuted at No. 72. The cut also hit the highest tier on Billboard Global Excl. U.S., as it peaked at No. 10. The collaboration didn’t quite rise into that region on the Billboard Global 200, the more all-encompassing roster, but three weeks after it launched, “Eyes Closed” is still present on both lists — though it falls precipitously this time around.
