Director Ron Howard’s Eden, starring Jude Law, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, Ana de Armas and Daniel Brühl, is coming soon to Netflix.
Eden was released in theaters on Aug. 22 before its debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Sept. 19. The film held its worldwide premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
The official summary for the movie reads, “Director Ron Howard’s Eden unravels the shocking true story of a group of disillusioned outsiders who abandon civilization, settling on a remote, uninhabited island only to discover that the greatest threat isn’t the brutal climate or deadly wildlife, but each other.
“As tensions spiral and desperation takes hold, a twisted power struggle unfolds, leading to betrayal, violence, and the deaths of half the colony.”
Rated R, Eden also stars Richard Roxburgh and Felix Kammerer (Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein).
According to several published reports, Eden debuts on Netflix on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
For viewers who don’t have Netflix, the platform offers an ad-based free package for $7.99 per month for viewing on two supported devices andan ad-free package for $17.99 per month for two supported devices.
Additionally, Netflix offers an ad-free package for $24.99 per month for four supported devices with 4K Ultra HD programming.
How Did Audience And Critics Receive ‘Eden’?
Eden earned $1.5 million domestically and just over $900.00 during its release in theaters. The film had a net production budget of $35 million, according to Deadline. The film had a limited theatrical release that ran for three weeks, from Aug. 22 to Sept. 11.
Eden received a 57% “rotten” critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 129 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus reads, “A cohesive theme gets marooned in Eden‘s melodramatic dramatization of a colorful true story, but it does provide a starry cast and salacious thrills as compensation.”
Audiences, however, gave the film a 73% “fresh” Popcornmeter score based on 500-plus verified user ratings. An RT audience summary was not released.
