LIST: How Filipinos are standing up vs flood control corruption on November 30

MANILA, Philippines – As public outrage over flood control corruption continues to swell, protests calling for accountability are set to happen on Sunday, November 30, to mark Bonifacio Day.

In Metro Manila, a second iteration of the anti-corruption rallies in EDSA and Luneta — more commonly known as the Trillion Peso March in EDSA and Baha sa Luneta (Flood in Luneta) held last September — is expected to pull in bigger numbers. The Trillion Peso March Movement said bigger rallies are set for November 30 in a bid to amplify calls for accountability, full transparency, and a speedy prosecution of corruption cases.

Across the Philippines, many others have lined up local anti-corruption rallies and activities in time for Bonifacio Day, with some being part of the Trillion Peso March Movement. Here is a running list of anti-corruption rallies and activities happening from November 29 to 30:

Nationwide

  • November 30, 7:30 am | Trillion Peso March: Several organizations will start marching as early as 7:30 am to the People Power Monument, where a program will be conducted.
  • November 30 | The Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot, Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance (TAMA NA), and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan are leading several anti-corruption rallies in Davao City; IIoilo City; San Jose, Antique; Roxas City, Capiz; Kalibo, Aklan; Bacolod City; Calamba, Laguna Crossing; Cebu City; Tacloban; Baguio City; Naga City, Camarines Sur; and Legazpi City, Albay.

Luzon

  • November 29, 2 pm | Naga City, Bicol: The Trillion-Peso March Movement will hold a prayer assembly and rally against corruption at the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. Participants are encouraged to wear white or a white ribbon.
  • November 30, 12 pm | Calamba, Laguna: The Bahain ng Protesta ang Calamba will be held at 12 pm at Crossing, Calamba. It aims to denounce corruption and demand accountability.
  • November 30, 1 pm | La Union: The Baha sa La Union: Kilos Kontra Korapsyon protest, organized by Kilos La Union Kontra Korapsyon Movement, will be held at the UCC Covered Court in San Fernando City. The movement calls for a comprehensive, transparent, and public investigation for all public officials involved in corruption.

Visayas

  • November 29, 7:30 am | Calbayog City, Samar: Christ the King College students and members of the CKC community are encouraged to join their march protest against corruption. Participants are expected to assemble at 7:30 am before marching to the city proper. After the march, a short program will be held at the CKC Assumption Province Gymnatorium.
  • November 30, 1 pm | Iloilo City: Kahublagan Kontra Kurapsyon calls on Illonggos to join its anti-corruption protest and march towards the Iloilo Provincial Capitol. Participants are encouraged to wear white.
  • November 30, 2:30 pm | Cebu City: Cebuanos may join the Archdiocese of Cebu’s anti-corruption initiative, “SuPaKK: Sugbuanong Pakigbisog Kontra Korapsyon,” to promote transparency and accountability. The initiative will kick off with a Holy Mass at Pilgrim Center, while non-Catholic participants may gather at Plaza Independencia. Participants will then conduct a peaceful march from Basilica to Fuente Osmena Circle for the program.

Mindanao

  • November 29, 8 am | Cagayan de Oro City: A multisectoral protest against corruption will be held at Gaston Park. Participants are encouraged to wear white.
