Bitcoin Cash (BCH) has emerged as the top-performing layer 1 blockchain of 2024, posting a nearly 40% price increase and surpassing major competitors like XRP, Solana, Ethereum, and others, according to data analyzed by crypto expert Crypto Koryo. This impressive rally underscores BCH's resilience and growing appeal in a competitive crypto landscape.

Bitcoin Cash's Stellar Year
Data shared by analyst Crypto Koryo on social media highlights Bitcoin Cash's dominance among layer 1 networks—blockchains that serve as the base layer for decentralized applications. Starting the year at around $250, BCH has climbed to over $350, achieving a 40% gain despite market volatility. This outperforms XRP's 25% rise, Solana's 30% growth, Ethereum's modest 15% uptick, and other layer 1s like Cardano and Avalanche, which saw smaller or negative returns.

Crypto Koryo attributes BCH's success to its focus on scalability and low fees, making it ideal for everyday transactions. As a fork of Bitcoin, BCH emphasizes larger block sizes for faster processing, positioning it as a practical alternative for payments and DeFi.

Factors Driving the Surge
Several elements have fueled Bitcoin Cash's outperformance. Enhanced adoption in emerging markets, where low-cost remittances are crucial, has boosted demand. Upgrades like the CashTokens protocol have enabled more sophisticated smart contracts, attracting developers and users. Additionally, amid broader crypto recovery post-2022 bear market, BCH benefited from renewed interest in Bitcoin-related assets, especially with Bitcoin's own halving event influencing sentiment.

Crypto Koryo noted in his analysis: "BCH is quietly leading the pack, proving that utility-driven chains can thrive even in a hype-dominated market." This comes as layer 1 competition intensifies, with Solana gaining traction for speed and Ethereum advancing via layer 2 solutions, yet BCH's steady gains suggest undervalued potential.

Comparison with Peers
While Solana impressed with ecosystem growth and meme coin frenzy, its 30% gain lags BCH. XRP, bolstered by regulatory wins, still fell short at 25%. Ethereum, the layer 1 giant, struggled with high gas fees and competition from alternatives, managing only 15%. These figures, per Crypto Koryo's data from sources like CoinMarketCap, illustrate BCH's edge in a year marked by ETF approvals and institutional inflows.

However, challenges remain. BCH's market cap of around $7 billion pales compared to Ethereum's $400 billion, indicating room for growth but also vulnerability to Bitcoin's price swings.

Implications for the Crypto Market
Bitcoin Cash's leadership could signal a shift toward fundamentally strong, utility-focused projects. For investors, this highlights opportunities in overlooked layer 1s. As 2024 progresses, with potential bull runs ahead, BCH's momentum might inspire similar rallies in peers.

The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For

The post The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Visions of future technology are often prescient about the broad strokes while flubbing the details. The tablets in “2001: A Space Odyssey” do indeed look like iPads, but you never see the astronauts paying for subscriptions or wasting hours on Candy Crush.  Channel factories are one vision that arose early in the history of the Lightning Network to address some challenges that Lightning has faced from the beginning. Despite having grown to become Bitcoin’s most successful layer-2 scaling solution, with instant and low-fee payments, Lightning’s scale is limited by its reliance on payment channels. Although Lightning shifts most transactions off-chain, each payment channel still requires an on-chain transaction to open and (usually) another to close. As adoption grows, pressure on the blockchain grows with it. The need for a more scalable approach to managing channels is clear. Channel factories were supposed to meet this need, but where are they? In 2025, subnetworks are emerging that revive the impetus of channel factories with some new details that vastly increase their potential. They are natively interoperable with Lightning and achieve greater scale by allowing a group of participants to open a shared multisig UTXO and create multiple bilateral channels, which reduces the number of on-chain transactions and improves capital efficiency. Achieving greater scale by reducing complexity, Ark and Spark perform the same function as traditional channel factories with new designs and additional capabilities based on shared UTXOs.  Channel Factories 101 Channel factories have been around since the inception of Lightning. A factory is a multiparty contract where multiple users (not just two, as in a Dryja-Poon channel) cooperatively lock funds in a single multisig UTXO. They can open, close and update channels off-chain without updating the blockchain for each operation. Only when participants leave or the factory dissolves is an on-chain transaction…
