Coinbase Taps Blik Network to Broaden Crypto Payments in Poland

Coinbase integrates Poland’s Blik system, enabling direct złoty crypto purchases and expanding local access through fast, secure mobile payments.

Coinbase is expanding its European footprint by strengthening payment access in Poland. The exchange integrated Blik, which is a dominant local mobile payment network. As a result, the Polish users can now buy crypto with the use of Zloty. This is quite the turn in the right direction in the localised payment rails towards getting the road to broader adoption.

Coinbase Expands Polish Payments Through Blik Integration

Coinbase has partnered up with European payment processor PPro to implement Blik payments. Blik serves almost 20 million users throughout Poland. Therefore, the integration expands the potential user base of Coinbase significantly. The news was broken by Coinbase executive Côme Prost on LinkedIn.

Prost joined Coinbase in February 2024 as head of French operations. However, he also identified Europe-wide payment priorities. He emphasized that the improvement of local rails was key to adoption. Familiar, fast ways of doing things often are the key to sustained user engagement.

Blik enables people to transact directly via banking applications. Importantly, there are no physical cards to deal. Users are also reluctant to input sensitive information online. Each transaction has a one-time six-digit code, which is valid for two minutes.

Payments are made through in-app confirmation via PINs or biometrics. As a result, the level of security is still high across transactions. Blik supports e-commerce purchases, in-store purchases, ATM withdrawals and deposits. It also facilitates immediate peer-to-peer transfers by phone numbers.

Coinbase Unlocks Direct PLN Crypto Purchases Through Blik

Blik is the king of Poland’s online payments with a market share close to 70%. In addition, transactions process instantly. This speed is in good comparison with traditional bank transfers. Therefore, Blik has found its way into the lives of the daily commerce of Poles.

And for Coinbase, the integration opens up direct purchases of PLN for the first time. In the past, there were indirect methods that were used by the users. And now, it is easier to buy crypto. As a result, steps of conversion and potential fees are reduced.

Poland has seen robust growth in crypto adoption at an estimated level of close to 51 percent. Therefore, Coinbase has a strategic interest in local access. Improving onramping is still a critical part of European expansion. Blik provides a trusted bridge between banks and crypto platforms.

The partnership also improves security for the user. Blik’s in-app authentication provides some safeguards when making purchases. This feature solves problems that have often been linked to crypto transactions. As a result, confidence in first-time users may be boosted.

Local Payment Rails Strengthen Europe’s Crypto Onramps

The collaboration is part of a larger industry trend. Exchanges are increasingly incorporating domestic payment systems. Such moves make crypto services fit in with day-to-day financial habits. Therefore, the barriers to adoption continue to decrease.

Coinbase highlighted that familiarity from the locality drives usability. Blik is already connected to the majority of Polish banks. Hence, there is still minimal onboarding friction. Users interact via systems that they already trust daily.

The integration is also beneficial to the merchants indirectly. Faster settlement helps in the better flow of liquidity. Although Coinbase is concentrated on consumers, infrastructure gains go further. This alignment enhances Poland’s position in the European crypto economy.

PPro is central in enabling this connection. The processor connects platforms worldwide to regional payment networks. As a result, regulatory and technical barriers are mitigated. Coinbase gets speed with no sacrifice of compliance.

This step is part of Coinbase’s overall European strategy. The exchange keeps adding region specific methods of payment. Such localization is conducive to regulatory clarity and consumer trust. Over time such a strategy may influence competitive processes.

Ultimately, Blik integration is about practical adoption paths. Instead of complex tools users get simple entry points. Crypto purchases now reflect everyday mobile payments. Therefore, the retail participation growth in Poland may be sustained.
