Key Facts
In the social media post, the vice president and second lady said it was an “exciting and hectic time.”
The couple also thanked their military doctors, who they said “ensure that we can serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children.”
Vance, 41, became the first millennial vice president when President Donald Trump won a second term during the 2024 presidential election.
He met his wife Usha, 40, at Yale Law School.
The Vances already have three other children: two sons, Ewan, eight, and Vivek, five, as well as a four-year-old daughter, Mirabel.
Key Background
The announcement comes just under one year after Vance made his first public address after being sworn in as vice president, where he explicitly called for Americans to have more children. “Let me say very simply I want more babies in the United States of America,” Vance told a pro-life rally in Washington, D.C. last January. “I want more happy children in our country and I want beautiful young men and women who are eager to welcome them into the world and eager to raise them.” Vance has a long history of encouraging younger Americans to have more children, the Associated Press reported in 2024. He also used this as a line of attack during the 2024 campaign, repeatedly condemning supporters of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris as “childless cat ladies.”
