Nancy Mace forced to respond after brutal GOP snub in governor's race

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) got a bitter blow in her candidacy for governor of South Carolina as outgoing Gov. Henry McMaster endorsed his lieutenant governor, Pamela Evette, to succeed him — leading some to speculate President Donald Trump, who is close with McMaster, might do the same any day now.

Mace took to X on Wednesday to fight back.

"Governor McMaster has served South Carolina faithfully, and I respect his years of service," wrote Mace. "Pam Evette is a nice lady. But endorsements don’t fix potholes. Endorsements don’t eliminate the state income tax. And endorsements don’t put billions into roads and bridges. Results do. And my record does too."

"South Carolina families aren’t looking for more of the same," she continued. "They’re looking for a strong leader with a plan, and we’re the only campaign that has one. I didn’t get into this race to collect endorsements. I got in to keep a promise to the people of South Carolina. And here’s what the establishment still hasn’t figured out: I don’t stop. I don’t waver. And I certainly don’t scare."

Mace's characterization of Evette as a "nice lady" stands somewhat in contrast with her public feud months ago, when Mace accused Evette of faking McMaster and Trump endorsements in a political advertisement. In her original email accusing Evette of misleading voters, she posted a picture of herself standing next to Trump, all but making the same misleading implication Evette had for herself.

This comes as more and more of Mace's former employees come forward to detail her erratic behavior and alleged mental instability, including an excessive drinking problem, which she has denied, and even a claim that she ordered her staff to upvote Reddit posts calling her one of the most attractive women in Congress.

Even before these allegations, Mace's activity in Congress had been going off the rails, with her vowing to release images of her naked body in committee to prove she was sexually assaulted.
