Altcoin exchange inflows are rising sharply in 2026, and the data suggests that holders are becoming increasingly active.

According to the chart, the average daily altcoin deposits to exchanges have reached 49,000 transactions so far in 2026. That represents a 22% increase compared to Q4 2025, when the average stood near 40,000.

When coins move onto exchanges, they typically are not being parked for long-term storage. In most cases, exchange inflows signal preparation for selling.

What the Chart Shows

After analyzing the 7-day cumulative exchange inflow transaction count, several trends stand out clearly.

During Q2 2025, average daily deposits hovered around 35,000 transactions. That figure climbed noticeably in Q3 2025 to approximately 44,000 before cooling slightly to around 40,000 in Q4. Now, in early 2026, the average has surged to 49,000, marking the highest level observed on the chart.

The steady climb into early 2026 suggests growing distribution activity. The chart also shows repeated inflow spikes across major exchanges such as Binance, Bybit, OKX, and Coinbase, indicating that this trend is not isolated to a single venue.

Importantly, the acceleration in inflows is occurring while overall market structure remains uncertain. The visible rise in deposit activity contrasts with prior quarters where inflows stabilized or declined during consolidation phases.

Why Exchange Inflows Matter

Exchange inflows are often viewed as a leading indicator of potential sell pressure.

When holders transfer tokens from private wallets to exchanges, those assets become immediately liquid and available for trading. This increases the probability of supply hitting order books, which can elevate downside volatility if demand does not keep pace.

While not every deposit results in a sale, sustained increases in inflows have historically aligned with periods of heightened distribution and price sensitivity.

Is This Early Distribution?

The data suggests that altcoin holders are more active in 2026 compared to late 2025. The 49,000 daily average marks a clear shift in behavior.

After analyzing the structure, it becomes visible that this trend may reflect profit-taking from prior rallies, portfolio repositioning amid macro uncertainty, or capital rotation into larger assets such as Bitcoin.

Whether this represents short-term tactical movement or the beginning of broader distribution remains uncertain. However, the data clearly shows that altcoin holders are moving coins onto exchanges at a faster pace than in the previous quarter, and historically, rising inflows tend to precede increased volatility.

Cryptos Signal Divergence Ahead of Fed Rate Decision

Cryptos Signal Divergence Ahead of Fed Rate Decision

The post Cryptos Signal Divergence Ahead of Fed Rate Decision appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Crypto assets send conflicting signals ahead of the Federal Reserve’s September rate decision. On-chain data reveals a clear decrease in Bitcoin and Ethereum flowing into centralized exchanges, but a sharp increase in altcoin inflows. The findings come from a Tuesday report by CryptoQuant, an on-chain data platform. The firm’s data shows a stark divergence in coin volume, which has been observed in movements onto centralized exchanges over the past few weeks. Bitcoin and Ethereum Inflows Drop to Multi-Month Lows Sponsored Sponsored Bitcoin has seen a dramatic drop in exchange inflows, with the 7-day moving average plummeting to 25,000 BTC, its lowest level in over a year. The average deposit per transaction has fallen to 0.57 BTC as of September. This suggests that smaller retail investors, rather than large-scale whales, are responsible for the recent cash-outs. Ethereum is showing a similar trend, with its daily exchange inflows decreasing to a two-month low. CryptoQuant reported that the 7-day moving average for ETH deposits on exchanges is around 783,000 ETH, the lowest in two months. Other Altcoins See Renewed Selling Pressure In contrast, other altcoin deposit activity on exchanges has surged. The number of altcoin deposit transactions on centralized exchanges was quite steady in May and June of this year, maintaining a 7-day moving average of about 20,000 to 30,000. Recently, however, that figure has jumped to 55,000 transactions. Altcoins: Exchange Inflow Transaction Count. Source: CryptoQuant CryptoQuant projects that altcoins, given their increased inflow activity, could face relatively higher selling pressure compared to BTC and ETH. Meanwhile, the balance of stablecoins on exchanges—a key indicator of potential buying pressure—has increased significantly. The report notes that the exchange USDT balance, around $273 million in April, grew to $379 million by August 31, marking a new yearly high. CryptoQuant interprets this surge as a reflection of…
