One of the highest-stakes game shows is back on streaming. The second season of Squid Game: The Challenge officially premiered on Netflix on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Here’s everything you need to know about tuning in, including when new episodes and the finale will be released.

Squid Game: The Challenge is filmed in the U.K. and is based on the hit original South Korean series Squid Game, one of Netflix’s most popular shows of all time. The show’s third and final season aired in June 2025 and ended with the heartbreaking death of a major character and the possibility of an American spinoff.

Like Season 1, 456 players from around the world are competing for a massive $4.56 million prize ($10,000 per contestant), one of the largest game-show jackpots in history. Contestants must take on a variety of challenges, build strategic alliances and sometimes betray those alliances, all for a chance to make it to the finale.

According to Netflix, Season 2 contestants range in age from 21 to 77 and include nurses, bartenders, an NFL cheerleader, a retired bomb technician, a Dairy Queen owner, a lobster fisherman and even Robert Pattinson’s Twilight stunt double. Check out Netflix’s extensive list of the full cast here.

The reality show reproduces many elements from the award-winning survival drama. In 2023, players played familiar games like Red Light, Green Light and Glass Bridge. The next set of games in Season 2 includes The Count, Six-Legged Pentathlon, Catch Mingle, Marbles, Slides and Ladders, Circle of Trust and the undisclosed Finale Game, according to Tudum.

Without revealing spoilers about which players have been eliminated so far, the premiere introduced two ruthless games, The Count and The Six-Legged Pentathlon, which quickly slashed the player pool to roughly a quarter of the original 456 contestants.

Mai Whelan (Player 287) won the first season of Squid Game: The Challenge. The 55-year-old immigration adjudicator outwitted 455 other contestants to win the $4.56 million prize. Whelan formed alliances with Chad (Player 286), Figgy (Player 033), Brownie (Player 258) and Cookie (Player 285). She earned her way into the final three, competing against Sam (Player 016) and Phill (Player 451).

After her win, Mai told Netflix’s Tudum that she planned to renovate her home and build a small dock for a boat, as well as donate to causes she cares about. “My heart is with people, animals, and climate change,” she added. “If we continue what we’re doing, there won’t be a future for all the little kids growing up right now.”
