Shiba Inu Faces Backlash Over Failure to Report $4M Shibarium Hack

2025/12/02 23:48

TLDR

  • A prominent crypto founder criticized Shiba Inu for not reporting the $4M Shibarium hack to law enforcement immediately.
  • The Shiba Inu team offered an amnesty payment to the hacker but faced backlash for not involving authorities in the process.
  • Critics argue that the failure to report the hack undermines trust in Shiba Inu’s commitment to transparency and security.
  • Shiba Inu’s response to the breach has raised concerns about the project’s approach to legal and ethical responsibilities.
  • The Shibarium bridge hack exposed vulnerabilities within the network and caused a loss of investor confidence in Shiba Inu.

A leading figure in the crypto ecosystem recently criticized Shiba Inu’s handling of the Shibarium bridge hack. The attack, which resulted in the theft of around $4 million in tokens, raised concerns about the project’s response. Critics argue that the team’s failure to immediately report the theft to law enforcement compromises the security and integrity of the project.

Shiba Inu’s Response to Shibarium Bridge Hack

The Shiba Inu team initially responded to the hack by offering an amnesty payment to the attacker in exchange for the return of the stolen funds. This approach is common in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space, aiming to recover assets quickly. However, this method raised questions, as it did not involve immediate legal action or collaboration with authorities such as the FBI.

Many in the crypto community criticized the decision, arguing that it sends the wrong message.

The lack of official law enforcement involvement has fueled doubts regarding the team’s commitment to protecting user funds.

The Shiba Inu team’s decision not to engage law enforcement immediately has sparked heated discussions within the crypto community. Critics argue that this oversight could set a troubling precedent for other projects. In the case of such a major security breach, failure to report the theft could suggest that internal negotiations and damage control are given precedence over legal responsibility.

Shiba Inu’s core developer, Kaal Dhairya, acknowledged the situation’s complexity but assured investors that measures were in place to mitigate further risks. The response, however, has done little to reassure critics who believe that a stronger stance should have been taken. They argue that the project should have prioritized transparency and legal action to safeguard user trust.

The hack itself exposed vulnerabilities within the Shibarium bridge’s security, allowing the attacker to gain control of a majority of validators. The attacker used an advanced flash loan attack, which raised further concerns about the network’s security architecture. This breach has led to a loss of confidence in the Shiba Inu ecosystem, with some investors questioning its future viability.

The Shiba Inu team has yet to clarify why it did not involve law enforcement agencies sooner. Without a clear explanation, the hack continues to affect the project’s reputation, especially among those who value transparency in decentralized networks.

The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For

The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For

The post The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Visions of future technology are often prescient about the broad strokes while flubbing the details. The tablets in “2001: A Space Odyssey” do indeed look like iPads, but you never see the astronauts paying for subscriptions or wasting hours on Candy Crush.  Channel factories are one vision that arose early in the history of the Lightning Network to address some challenges that Lightning has faced from the beginning. Despite having grown to become Bitcoin’s most successful layer-2 scaling solution, with instant and low-fee payments, Lightning’s scale is limited by its reliance on payment channels. Although Lightning shifts most transactions off-chain, each payment channel still requires an on-chain transaction to open and (usually) another to close. As adoption grows, pressure on the blockchain grows with it. The need for a more scalable approach to managing channels is clear. Channel factories were supposed to meet this need, but where are they? In 2025, subnetworks are emerging that revive the impetus of channel factories with some new details that vastly increase their potential. They are natively interoperable with Lightning and achieve greater scale by allowing a group of participants to open a shared multisig UTXO and create multiple bilateral channels, which reduces the number of on-chain transactions and improves capital efficiency. Achieving greater scale by reducing complexity, Ark and Spark perform the same function as traditional channel factories with new designs and additional capabilities based on shared UTXOs.  Channel Factories 101 Channel factories have been around since the inception of Lightning. A factory is a multiparty contract where multiple users (not just two, as in a Dryja-Poon channel) cooperatively lock funds in a single multisig UTXO. They can open, close and update channels off-chain without updating the blockchain for each operation. Only when participants leave or the factory dissolves is an on-chain transaction…
