At first glance, NVDA and NVDAON seem to offer the same thing: exposure to NVIDIA.
That is only partly true.
NVDA is common stock issued by NVIDIA Corporation and traded on Nasdaq. A person who buys NVDA through traditional securities infrastructure owns NVIDIA shares.
NVDAON, by contrast, is an Ondo tokenized product designed to follow the economic performance of NVDA. It is a separate instrument, issued through Ondo's tokenization structure and tradable on blockchain-based markets such as MEXC.
The simplest distinction is:
NVDA is NVIDIA equity. NVDAON is tokenized economic exposure linked to that equity.
That difference matters for ownership rights, trading hours, custody, dividends, corporate actions and the risks an investor is taking.
For readers who need the product basics first, see What Is NVDAON? Ondo Tokenized NVIDIA Stock Explained.
NVIDIA Corporation's common stock trades on Nasdaq under NVDA. NVIDIA shareholders participate directly in the equity of the company and use the traditional U.S. securities ownership and settlement framework.
NVDAON sits one layer further away:
NVIDIA Corporation → NVDA → Ondo NVDAON
Ondo says its tokenized stocks are designed as total-return trackers of their underlying securities. They provide economic exposure but are not themselves the corresponding common shares.
That distinction may sound legalistic, but it has practical consequences.
| Feature | NVDA | NVDAON |
|---|---|---|
| Product | NVIDIA common stock | Ondo tokenized product |
| Underlying company | NVIDIA | NVIDIA via NVDA |
| Primary market | Nasdaq | Blockchain/tokenized markets |
| Direct NVIDIA share ownership | Yes | No |
| Quote currency | USD | USDT on MEXC |
| Traditional shareholder status | Yes | No |
| Blockchain asset | No | Yes |
| Ondo issuer/custody layer | No | Yes |
| Token tracking risk | No | Yes |
| Economic exposure to NVIDIA | Yes | Designed to provide it |
A direct NVDA investor owns NVIDIA common stock.
That matters because common-stock ownership exists within the legal framework governing NVIDIA shareholders. Depending on eligibility and market infrastructure, this can include rights associated with corporate voting, dividends and other shareholder actions.
MEXC now offers a separate route for eligible users who want actual U.S.-listed securities through its RealStocks product. MEXC says RealStocks positions are real securities held through regulated brokerage infrastructure rather than synthetic or tokenized exposure. NVDA is currently among the U.S. stocks displayed through MEXC's stock market interface.
For the product structure, read What Is RealStocks?.
You own the token.
Ondo Global Markets' structure is designed to support that token with corresponding securities and applicable cash held through broker-dealer infrastructure. Ondo also says an independent verification agent checks backing.
That creates economic linkage to NVIDIA without turning the token holder into the conventional registered owner of the NVDA share held in the supporting structure.
For a practical purchase walkthrough, see How to Buy NVDAON on MEXC.
The main difference is not NVIDIA itself. It is the market infrastructure around the exposure.
Traditional shares are built around securities-market schedules, broker custody and USD settlement.
Tokenized products can be integrated with blockchain settlement, crypto balances and secondary trading venues.
Ondo currently lists NVDAon among six tokenized assets for which direct minting and redemption can operate 24/7, apart from scheduled downtime, extraordinary market events and other specified exceptions.
That can matter when NVIDIA announces news outside the regular Nasdaq session.
NVIDIA often publishes earnings after the regular U.S. stock session.
Suppose NVDA finishes its regular session at $200.
NVIDIA then announces unexpectedly strong guidance at 4:20 p.m. Eastern Time.
The last regular-session $200 price is immediately outdated from an information perspective. Tokenized markets can start incorporating expectations for the next NVDA session before that session opens.
So if NVDAON moves above the previous NVDA close, that gap should not automatically be interpreted as a tracking problem.
Sometimes the token is trading new information against an old stock-market reference.
A conventional NVDA shareholder receives declared dividends through the securities infrastructure in which the shares are held.
Ondo takes another approach.
Its tokenized stocks are designed as total-return trackers, and applicable dividends are reinvested into underlying exposure after relevant withholding tax rather than necessarily appearing as a matching cash dividend in the token holder's account.
This is one reason investors should not assume that one token will permanently correspond to precisely one underlying share on a static basis.
NVIDIA completed a 10-for-1 stock split in June 2024. Each pre-split share became ten post-split shares, while the split itself did not change the total economic value of the position at the moment of adjustment.
Ondo says stock splits and other corporate actions are reflected in tokenized products so that economic exposure is maintained. Minting and redemption can also be paused temporarily around certain corporate actions.
Again, the goal is economic continuity, not legal identity between the token and a traditional share.
NVDA trades within U.S. securities-market sessions.
NVDAON can trade through crypto-market infrastructure outside that schedule.
This can be useful, but it also introduces new problems. Liquidity can be thinner outside U.S. market hours, the latest NVDA reference can be stale, and spreads can widen after major announcements.
Round-the-clock access should therefore not be confused with round-the-clock identical liquidity.
Traditional NVDA is priced in U.S. dollars.
MEXC's tokenized pair is:
NVDAON/USDT
Eligible users can view the live market at NVDAON/USDT on MEXC.
USDT is designed to track the U.S. dollar, but it remains a separate digital asset. That creates another small pricing variable when comparing NVDA with NVDAON.
NVDA investors face NVIDIA's business and equity-market risks.
NVDAON holders face those same underlying economic risks plus additional layers:
token issuer structure, collateral arrangements, blockchain infrastructure, token-market liquidity, USDT pricing and centralized-exchange custody when held on an exchange.
Tokenization changes access. It does not remove NVIDIA risk.
For MEXC users, the distinction is especially useful because NVIDIA exposure is available through more than one structure.
MEXC explicitly lists NVDA among RealStocks and has run campaigns involving real NVDA shares.
So an eligible user can ask a more useful question than simply “How do I buy NVIDIA?”
The better question is:
Do I want direct stock ownership, a tokenized instrument, or another NVIDIA-linked product?
MEXC's existing guide RealStocks vs Tokenized Stocks vs Stock Futures explores that broader structural choice.
No. NVDA is NVIDIA common stock. NVDAON is an Ondo tokenized product linked economically to NVDA.
Not in the same legal sense as buying NVDA through securities-market infrastructure.
It is designed to provide total-return economic exposure linked to NVDA. Short-term price differences can still occur.
Ondo says applicable net dividends are reinvested into the underlying exposure rather than necessarily distributed as matching cash payments.
MEXC's RealStocks platform currently includes NVIDIA among supported U.S. stocks for eligible users.
Eligible users can access NVDAON/USDT on MEXC.
