The AI supply chain filled all six layers on November 3, yet only one of seven items carried a price. The same day AMD (Ticker: AMD) posted a record $8.5B data center quarter, while Drax's £20B campus and the New York NAND plant of Solidigm, a unit of SK hynix (Ticker: SKHY), each wait on a permit.

Drax signs a £20B campus deal with Brookfield, Radiant and Qai
Contract | Under review | Drax announcement (RNS) 2026/11/03
Drax said it has signed an agreement to develop a strategic partnership to build an AI data center of more than 1GW on the Drax Power Station estate in North Yorkshire. Brookfield estimates total potential investment could exceed £20B, with an initial £2.5B for Phase 1 targeting up to 100MW from the first quarter of 2028. The announcement states Phase 1 still depends on planning and network approvals, an acceptable tenant and a final investment decision by each party. Drax is listed in London and has no US ticker.

Today's Takeaway

Countable deal value this issue is $1.30B, with $3.35B excluded. The countable round is equity rather than procurement, so it places no order with any vendor today; the excluded figure is Drax's £2.5B Phase 1 capital plan, converted at the November 3 GBP/USD close of 1.3415, and its public consultation only starts in November while the planning application is still being prepared. The two larger numbers sit on neither side: Drax's £20B is Brookfield's potential estimate, and Solidigm's roughly $45B New York plan is one the company says is undecided. The two CrowdStrike (Ticker: CRWD) acquisitions, Bull's memorandum and Tower's production milestone all carry no figure at all.

How to use this next time: when a large number appears, first ask whether it is a price. Only $1.30B actually changed hands today, while the £20B and the $45B are money someone intends to spend rather than money already paid, and whether they turn into orders depends on two permits. Read "has signed", "still subject to" and "no decision made" as three different states and you can work out for yourself which layer actually received money today. Nvidia (Ticker: NVDA) joining fal's Series F as a strategic investor makes the same point, because a strategic investment is not a purchase order.
